Cairo - A US assault on the district of Jebail to the south of Fallujah, 50 kilometres west of Baghdad, resulted in the deaths of three Iraqi civilians and the injury of 10 others Monday, Iraqi security sources said.

US forces fired on houses in the district following confrontations with armed groups in the vicinity, security force spokesman Mustafa Karim said.

An armed group firing mortar rounds on the US military base 2 kilometres south of Fallujah was met with return fire from US forces, Karim said.

Karim added that 13 civilians were taken to the local hospital following the attack. Three died of their injuries whilst another 10, including three women and two children, were still being treated.

Fallujah has been recently witnessing a renewed escalation of armed confrontations between US forces and armed Iraqi groups, Karim added.

I thought we had'er all cleaned up? ...a "model" of how to handle other "hot-spots" in Iraq, if I remember correctly.
