In Italy, signs mount that Berlusconi will have to throw in towel

ROME, April 17, 2006 (AFP) - As Italy entered a second week of political deadlock Monday, signs mounted that Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will soon be obliged to concede defeat by the narrowest of margins to center-left leader Romano Prodi.

Barring unforeseen developments, the supreme court is expected to confirm Prodi's win by just 25,000 votes on Tuesday or Wednesday, when a check of a handful of contested votes is expected to be finalized in his favor.

The flamboyant Berlusconi, Italy's richest man who has steadfastly refused to concede defeat so far, has said he will accept the court's finding.

The media magnate, who retreated to his Sardinian mansion for the long Easter weekend, remained defiant while renewing a call for talks on "priority issues" facing the divided country, the ANSA news agency reported.

7. I'll tell ya what
as much as this guy is a goof, I wish we had someone that would put up a fight like this when it comes to conceding.

8. the people threw bellusca out...hopefully the court will too(he is taking
a page from algore, hoping, perhaps, that the courts will find in his favor ala bush--but hopefully they will also throw berllusca out...) anyhow once they've gotten rid once and for all bush ought to invite him to come down and spend time clearing brush in crawford.
