Hil's piddling foes (new NY Senate poll)
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 08:44 AM by brooklynite
Sen. Hillary Clinton was hardly shaking in her pantsuits yesterday when the latest poll figures were released.

A survey of Republicans found only 20% favored Senate contender Kathleen (KT) McFarland - and she is the front-runner.

...snip...

The Siena survey also showed the two remaining Republican candidates for governor are likewise treading water, with 62% of Republicans saying they have no opinion yet. The survey found former Assembly GOP leader John Faso holding an 18%-to-15% lead over former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld.

Meanwhile, the front-runner on the Democratic side in the governor's race, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, posted a 72% to 11% blowout when matched against Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi among likely Democratic voters.

1. I think this is a very disrespectful way to open an article. It is really
a cut on all women who are strong.

6. Imagine if they'd kept it "boots"!
I suspect they were trying to avoid what you say they achieved for you anyway.

2. Senator Clinton looks untouchable in New York right now.
On Bill Weld. Very intelligent guy, tough as nails, way more evolved than the average Republican.

But John Kerry whomped him in their Massachusetts Senate race.

Weld surely knows that he faces long odds trying to defeat Spitzer, that is if he even gets the nomination.

4. She WILL be...long as Big Dog keeps chumming up to Poppy.
Unbeatable...absolutely.

And I am NOT Dem-bashing. I just don't consider Hil a real Dem, nor does she seem to represent her constituents. Her email to me recently, reminded me she was "too busy" ("didn't have the time") to address issues presented by citizens NOT living in New York.

Talk about uncaring...

5. In her defense, the trend among U.S. Senators now serving is to
segregate their-own-state constituent mail with mail from out-of-staters.

It's a weak response, since a Senator very much votes on people and laws which effect voters in all states.

Even on the web contact forms, it's clear that they wish to feel beholden only to their own state's voters.

Not fair at all.

8. Sorry to disagree but Senator Clinton represents me just fine...
and responds to all my correspondence to her. She is a great senator for the State of New York.

9. She doesn't represent me very well. She is about the only statewide
Democrat running for office (other than Suozzi, who doesn't have a chance) that does not support full marriage equality for gay people.

10. Given the national denial of the term "marriage" to other than man/woman
we need to devise terms that provide the rights and protections of "marriage" while being terms applicable to gays and lesbians.

Personally, I have talked with many of my neighbors and co-workers about this. When you say gay marriage, they get all hostile. But, in my admittedly non-scientific polling over beer and kids playing, when asked if people who commit to each other in a legal, binding manner should have the same playing field as married heterosexuals, said they should have the same rights.

So it just comes down to terms. Can we get some of the smart people in the movements out there to generate something that is acceptable to everyone, and get rights to all?

I know this will irritate many, but I always thought politics is the art of the possible. The term marriage, right now at least, cannot be expanded to include gays and lesbians. So why not expand the terms?

11. I disagree. The term marriage IS being expanded to include gay men
and lesbians. In Canada, several countries in Europe, in Massachusetts, perhaps in NY and NJ this year (we'll see). The list is growing and I'll pay close attention to those ahead of the curve. Unfortunately, Ms. Clinton is clearly not one of them. Either she does not support us with securing this basic right, or she does and is lying about it to get votes.
