Confidence vote on child care: PM
Harper challenges opposition to defeat new government over child care
Apr. 18, 2006. 04:44 PM
CANADIAN PRESS

BURNABY, B.C. — The Conservative election promise to give parents cash for child care will be included in the upcoming federal budget and will be subjected to a confidence vote, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said today.

Harper challenged his Liberal, Bloc and New Democrat critics to take his minority government down over the pledge.

“My purpose here is to deliver a clear message,” he said after attending a discussion at a suburban Vancouver community centre.

“We were elected on this, we ran on this. We are going to proceed with it. It will be in the budget. So I hope the Opposition considers the alternatives very carefully.”

1. What, is he tired of being PM already?
They were elected to 'send a message' to the Liberals to get their shit together.

I've already predicted they won't survive their first budget. This makes it a certainty.

hmmmm. now exactly WHO does that remind you good folks of? harper knows the public doesn't want an election anytime soon, he's just spouting off, trying to sound tough. he might well end up regretting his words though.

3. a lot of posturing
No party except the Conservatives want an election right now, though the Conservatives don't want to be seen bringing it on themselves. The Opposition is not about to defeat the government on a vote of confidence.
