NYT/AP: Bush, Schwarzenegger to Meet
AP NewsBreak: Bush, Schwarzenegger to Meet
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: April 18, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- They've found reason to avoid each other in recent months, but President Bush is scheduled to meet Friday afternoon with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, officials with both administrations said.

It won't be a long session -- just enough time for the governor to press his fellow Republican on such vital California issues as the state's fragile levee system and immigration, aides in both camps said Tuesday.

Schwarzenegger will meet Bush at the airport in San Jose, then ride in the president's limousine for a joint appearance at Cisco Systems.

Bush will pitch the American Competitiveness Initiative, which, if approved by Congress, would double government funding for basic research in the physical sciences, train thousands of new science and math teachers and extend a popular tax credit businesses can receive for investing in research and development.

Bush then will head to Napa County for what his aides describe as ''down time.'' The president will visit West Sacramento, near the Capitol, on Saturday....White House and Schwarzenegger administration officials said they did not expect Bush to bring an answer to the governor's February request for an unusual federal disaster declaration for the California levees....

1. Great. Each one can drag the other's poll numbers further down.
I hope they get together every week.

7. The funny part about this is the very fact that it deserves a headline.
It's news that they're actually going to be in the same zip code together at the same time. Arnold's been trying "diplomatically" to avoid him. Scheduling conflicts, dontcha know? They're finally gonna meet. How 'bout that? Two shits on a shingle.

Bush, Schwarzenegger to meet Friday in Silicon Valley

GOVERNOR WILL ASK FOR HELP ON LEVEES, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
By Kate Folmar
Mercury News

SACRAMENTO - President Bush and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will meet briefly on Friday in Silicon Valley, where the governor hopes to press for more federal funding to shore up California's aging levees and win reimbursement for incarceration of illegal immigrants.

Schwarzenegger is expected to meet the president when he touches down in the Bay Area. The governor will ride with Bush in the presidential motorcade to Cisco Systems in San Jose, where they will appear together.

There, Bush plans to discuss his American Competitiveness Initiative with a handful of Silicon Valley executives, including host Cisco CEO John Chambers. The governor, in turn, will lobby Bush for more federal funding.

``The governor is very enthusiastic about having a serious policy discussion with the president about issues that are critical to California, such as our levees,'' said Schwarzenegger press secretary Margita Thompson.

Whoever runs against Ah-nuld needs to remind Californians that the Gropinator campaigned for Lord Pissypants' re-election.

12. IOW, Jr is afraid of driving around the Bay Area and wants
the physical protection of the steroid-movie star governor. As if the depleted gov (depleted physically by the long steroid use, and politically for showing the bully-dunce con that he is to the public) could protect jr from unhappy crowds...
