Romanians flee as Danube dam breached

Wednesday, April 19, 2006; 4:39 AM

BISTRET, Romania (Reuters) - Seven thousand Romanians were evacuated overnight
after a dam on the Danube was breached, raising the danger the swollen river
would submerge their low-lying villages.

Officials said rescue teams were working round the clock to mend the dam.

The Danube remains at its highest level in more than a century in the Balkans,
but heavy rains and melting snow were expected to further swell Europe's
second-largest river.

1. Hoping that the evacuation efforts, and the
damn repairs go well. Sounds like a very dangerous situation.

4. they are so lucky to have a government that
works for the country. If that were here, the towns would already be submerged and those 7000 would be a repeat of NO.

The levees are almost breached in the central valley here in California. I'm not sure how much more rain we can stand on the west coast...although there has been sun and blue light for one full day and it started with the sun today.

5. You must be up north.
There hasn't been a whole lot of rain down south here on the coast in CA.
I wish we would get more.:)
