Intel chief says personnel number 100,000

WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation's spy chief disclosed for the first time Thursday that the number of U.S. intelligence personnel worldwide totals nearly 100,000.

In a speech at the National Press Club marking his first year on the job, National Intelligence Director John Negroponte indicated his willingness to make some, normally classified information public.

He provided one previously secret fact: "The U.S. intelligence community comprises almost 100,000 patriotic, talented and hardworking Americans in 16 federal departments and agencies."

"To the extent that the requirements of secrecy permit, the country should know what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how well they are doing it. Public understanding is important," Negroponte later added.

2. "the terrists never stop thinking of ways
to harm us and neither do we" 100,000 spies is staggering. Who knew we had so many spies that tell us so very little, except that some Quakers are against the war.

3. How else could they spy on all of us
They'd never be able to monitor our emails, phone calls and DU posts with a smaller staff.

I have vague memories of the rethugs claiming to be the party of 'small government'. Yep, that was a lie too.

Negroponte unveiled a $100 laptop computer designed for students in the developing world. The project is part of a broader program by One Laptop Per Child, a non-profit started by Negroponte and other MIT Media Lab faculty, to extend Internet access in developing countries.

Im sure he'll get a FAT government contract, to push this computer spyware on the developing countries.

much better than the Latin American death squads his brother was involved with.
