IMF wants India to reform labor laws

The International Monetary Fund is urging India to quickly reform its labor laws, Press Trust of India said Thursday.

Economic counselor and director of the IMF's research department, Raghuram Rajan, said continued growth in labor-intensive areas required reform.

India, too, is growing rapidly and important steps are being taken to improve the infrastructure. Reform of the labor laws are urgently needed if jobs are to be created in labor-intensive sectors, and I note the prime minister supported this today, Rajan said.
