Iran chalks U.S. threats up to failure to build coalition

'America is angry because no other country has taken its side'

Iran on Friday dismissed a U.S. warning it could strike Iranian nuclear installations in the name of self-defense, with the foreign ministry arguing the threat was a sign of frustration in Washington. "America is angry because no other country has taken its side," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency.

"The U.S. is trying to weaken international institutions by using lies and tricky unilateralist policies. The U.S. is trying to make up for its inability to get other countries on side," he added.

He was responding to comments made Wednesday by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that while she was confident a diplomatic solution would be found to the Iranian nuclear crisis, military options remain on the table and that Washington will not necessarily wait for an international consensus.
Iran's defense minister also reiterated the threat of harsh retaliation to any attack.

"If any power wants to carry out their threat, we will give a quick, firm and bitter response," Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar was quoted as saying.

5. Yes, they do like tweaking Bush.
Oil prices up? "Not high enough."
Threaten them over nukes? "We have begun more sophisticated uranium enrichment."
Iraq. "Hahaha, you lose, thank you for getting rid of Saddam."

8. I gather the Iranians, through their agent Ahmed Chalabi, cultivated the
impression that Saddam had WMD. Chalabi sent agents to contact our intelligence agencies, claiming to be Iraqi dissidents who knew where the WMD was kept. I suspect the Iranians were clever enough to know that they would accomplish two ends with this maneuver: They would get rid of Saddam, and they would tie the Americans down in an untenable post-Saddam situation in Iraq (weakening their position for subsequent action against Iran).

6. It's making me nervous...
I don't think Iran is appreciating our underlying emotions.

Although we know bush* lied about WMDs in Iraq, and invading Iraq at this time was stoooopid - Iran is forgetting the how easily the booga-booga talk was in getting wide support to invade Iraq in the first place.

The more Iran rattles their swords - the more uneasy Americans become. Not helping matters is our own government sword rattling.

It wouldn't take much for public opinion to swing towards invading Iran. Any terra-ttack on our interests, or on Israel would be enough.

Logic says we can't really afford another invasion - but since when has logic applied to anything the "DECIDER" has done?

7. It doesn't help much when you see goose-stepping Iranian troops on
tv. The Iranian leadership is arrogant and will share some of the blame if Bush does decide (God forbid) to pull the trigger.
