Six dead in Baghdad bomb attacks
Mortar rounds have exploded in Baghdad killing at least six civilians and wounding two, say Iraqi police.

Three mortars hit the heavily guarded Green Zone while others exploded near the Interior Ministry and the Shaab stadium, said the Associated Press.

Police are still searching the areas for more casualties.

The explosions came one day after Iraq's parliament elected a president, two vice presidents, a parliament speaker and two deputies.

2. It's incredibly sad -- most Iraqis aren't participating in this war
...other than by being killed/maimed/terrorized by the religious zealots who are conducting it.

3. Want to hear something disturbing?
I asked a staunch Republican if he was bothered by the recent rise in civilian deaths among Iraqi civilians. He had the nerve to inform me: "That's normal in that part of the world." What kind of kool-aid are they feeding these Repugs anyway?

4. It might not be kool-aid at all -- but just blind ignorance
Too many Americans don't need any help to form the false ideas they have about the rest of the world. Republicans -- those who aren't part of the rich elite -- are probably the most insulated of all; they're untraveled, unread, and generally disinterested in educating themselves. They surmise what a country is like based on what they hear on the corporate news.
