Kerry calls for Rumsfeld's resignation after new 'bin Laden' tape

Washington - US Senator John Kerry on Sunday called on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign following the airing of a new recording attributed to fugitive al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Bin Laden slipped past US troops from his hideout in the Tora Bora area of Afghanistan in late 2001 because Rumsfeld had not committed enough troops to finding him, Kerry, the Democratic Party candidate in the 2004 presidential election, told ABC television.

The failure to catch the al-Qaeda head on that occasion was one of the biggest catastrophes in the war against terrorism, Kerry added.

The US military says it has no information on the exact whereabouts of bin Laden, but suspects he is hiding somewhere along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

2. "somewhere along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan"
Man, he's been hiding in the same place for 4 1/2 years and they still have "no information on the exact whereabouts of bin Laden"

4. God, no kidding
I'm quite sure 4 1/2 years is enough time to search all the caves along the Afghan/Pakistan border.

Unless they don't want Bin Laden found after all... :tinfoilhat:

What happened to "wanted: dead or alive?"

17. Especially all the caves near enough to civilization
to explain why the in the video before the election, Bin Laden is wearing a perfectly clean, well pressed tunic standing behind a table covered by similarly smooth, pristine cloth.

3. Bin Laden is such a loyal servant of the Imperial Bush Family
He ALWAYS releases his tapes on time and as promised. Whenever his Chimperor is in trouble.

5. Finally, turning their propaganda against them. Good for Kerry. This is
how to train them not to even try to use their same old, tired scare tactics.

I wish they had done this before the election, each time there was a 'terror alert' or a Bin Laden tape. Sounds like Kerry is finally getting some good tactical advice.

it's no wonder Rummy is such a failure.

There's not as much as five minutes of honor among them.

Bin Laden's still free. Are you?
Bin Laden's not bugged. Are you?
Bin Laden can speak freely. Can you?

13. Vocal guy lately
This new Kerry is great. How can we trust it? His 2004 campaign defined how Democrats can not behave if we ever want to get out from under neo-con rule.

It's an uphill battle with the media. I have to agree with you, though, there were plenty of mistakes in the campaign. 'Defined' is a bit rough. :-)
Seems he's learned quite a bit since then. I think we all have.

edit sept, not may.

18. And criticized Tora Bora in 2002
And probably every time he called for Rummy's resignation. But like you say, good that he's doing it again.

15. You gotta admit -
have you ever seen any man hang on like Don Rumsfailed? I mean, he will hang on to power, until they come and physically remove him from the Pentagon. They'll pull him down the corridor....he'll be clawing at the walls, grasping for something to hang on to.

As they get to the front door, he'll hang on to the door moulding with his fingernails.

Rumsfailed puts Berlusconi to shame (see LBN article: Berlusconi plans to go back to work Monday morning).

19. And in 2002?
Is the election the only reason he expressed outrage about Tora Bora right after it happened?
