160. Good point
The Fox "News" broadcasts are indeed more like scripted propaganda
than newscasting. It's different when facing live thinking (sometimes,
anyway, not forgetting "Jeff Gannon") journalists--if any besides Helen
Thomas are left in the White House press Corps.

130. Calm? Snow is a stone ideologue.
He won't look on Helen Thomas as an adversary or an irritant. He will think, he probably already thinks, that she is a criminal.
This is pandering to the fifteen percent of the population that will never abandon Bush even though they think he's too liberal. This is going to go over very, very badly.

22. You've got to admit, it's going to be a pretty easy transition.
Old job: Lie in front of thousands of people daily.

New job: Lie in front of thousands of people daily and answer questions from members of the press with the generic, "You know, (reporter's name), I can't comment on an ongoing investigation."

Sadly, this probably won't convince some people that FOX News isn't conservative. Of course, they are probably also proud members of the 32%.

30. Tony Snow will not be able to handle the heat
also carries a lot of baggage,
so I think it is a good choice looking from my side of the fence
and a bad choice if your on the conservative side of the fence.

The many falsehoods of Tony Snow

Summary: Media Matters for America presents a compilation of false and misleading claims advanced by Tony Snow -- a Fox News Radio host, Fox News guest host and commentator, and former speechwriter to President George H.W. Bush -- who is reportedly being considered by the White House to replace outgoing press secretary Scott McClellan.>>>snip

From his statement that evolutionary theory is a "hypothesis" to his defense of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Media Matters for America has documented numerous false and misleading claims advanced by Snow as a Fox News commentator:

Snow falsely asserted that former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV said his wife, Valerie Plame, "wasn't covert for six years" before she was exposed as a CIA operative by syndicated columnist Robert Novak.

Snow put forward numerous falsehoods to argue that "volutionary theory, like ID , isn't verifiable or testable. It's pure hypothesis."

Snow claimed that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is the "most liberal justice in American history," despite evidence to the contrary.

Snow peddled the baseless Republican National Committee talking point that 2004 presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) had blamed U.S. troops for the explosives looted from the Al Qaqaa military installation following the invasion of Iraq. Snow said, "he Kerry campaign is not criticizing the president here. They're criticizing our troops."

Following President Bush's lead, Snow distorted Kerry's stated desire to reduce terrorism to a "horrible nuisance." Snow claimed Kerry had "called terrorists a nuisance."

Snow backed Swift Boat Veterans for Truth's attacks on Kerry, falsely claiming, "here has been no documentary contradiction of the Swift Boat stuff.
"
Snow falsely defended Bush from probing questions regarding his National Guard service......snip

120. Do you think FAUX NEWS watchers will finally catch on....
that FAUX is nothing more than Bush's "propaganda catapulter" and is not, in reality, "Fair and Balanced"? :puke: Many people see FAUX as the only REAL news outlet, the remainder of news outlets all being the "liberal media". Which well did the Bushies go to when they needed a mouthpiece stooge.......FAUX! Of course this would mean that those 32 percenters are actually thinking at all which is a poor bet by anyone's standards.
Bush Administration = FauxNews....simple as that. I hope this awakens people to that fact and that Rupert Murdoch feels it in the only place he has any feelings left; his wallet. A mass exodus of cable news viewers from FAUX might serve to inform a LOT of people what is actually going on in our country and the world today. If THEY get a glimpse of the truth then Bush's poll numbers could fall into the low 20's where they actually belong. Even the most hardcore Congressional Bush sycophant would have a hard time supporting the "Great Decider" should that happen. Perhaps THEN we'd get a full and honest investigation into the Bush cabal's myriad offenses.

Hey, a guy's 'gotta have hope. It's the only thing that keeps me going on a daily basis with the Bush gang in the White House.

"Fair and Balanced"?

Basically confirms once again that the station is an extension of the WH. I'm sure the whores at the other two are disappointed it wasn't one of their premiere whores, like Candy "Jabba" Crowley, or Whora O'Donnel.

Chris Matthews will be crying his ass to sleep tonight.

are actually a part of the administration.

(Yes, he's been a freeptard for several years, under 2 different profile names - "tonysnow" and "Tony Snow" I wonder if he'll have to post under an alias now, to avoid the apperance of a major conflict. He posts ther regularly, while he is on the air. Will they put a keyboard and mouse on the lectern for the Press Secretary now so he can continue to feed Freeperville?)

55. Snow more than insinuated Bill Clinton raped Monica Lewinsky: Whoa.....
Article by Tony Snow from February 18, 1999 on infolding Clinton impeachment:

"If the relationship was consensual, why did Monica behave more like a woman scared than a woman smitten? Why did she keep the semen-encrusted dress? Why did she tell others she feared for her life? And why did she inexplicably get the sack at the White House? Was this a classic case of punishing the paramour? And finally, does "consensual" mean OK? If so, did anybody seek Mrs. Clinton's approval or opinion?
On the "nobody's business" front, consider this: The president feared a foreign government had overheard his sick-puppy phone sex. Despite this, he continued panting into the mouthpiece, thus putting national security after his craving for a jolt of quivering transport.
Then he dispatched aides to lie. He misled his lawyer. He stood by quietly while Larry Flynt -- whose magazine once featured a cover illustration of a woman being lowered into a meat grinder -- and James Carville threatened wayward Republicans. He knew of threats to other women, including Kathleen Willey.
Call me quaint, but if the president is leading a ring that uses women as sex toys then cuffs them around to ensure their silence, I think that's a matter of concern.
Of course this affair was about sex. It also was about perjury, violation of public trust, obstruction of justice, abuse of power, national security and bipartisan moral cowardice. So how will we remember it, and what lessons will we learn? The left has developed a game plan. Has anybody on the right done the same?"

Bill,

Bill,

I'm so glad you know everything about me -- because obviously you know nothing. I won't waste time defending my bona fides. I'll just suggest you stop concocting conspiracy theories and do what I've suggested in the case of Salena: figure out the facts, and then make your charges. When it comes to my history, or even my social circles, you're clueless.

something about Scotty being left to 'twist in the wind' which 'wasn't very nice', however he took Scotty's job anyway.

Thanks for the link. A freep mentioned last week that he, Snow, might have to stop posting, at least under his own name!! Why bother? Their show is a joke, and we know he's a freeper. He may as well not try to hide it. But maybe we ought to screen capture the posts just in case ~

Mark Levin, another Fox anchor, is also a long time freeper ~ he boasts on the board about going to DC to march for the Clinton impeachment. And then there's Hannity, another freeper and of course, Jeff Gannon.

Seems the Fox crew came from FR ~

That station is definitely the propaganda arm of the radical rightwing, with channels to and from FR, to Drudge and to Rightwing hate radio. They set it all up a long time ago, anticipating the takeover in 2000.

Tony Snow likely to take White House post

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sources close to the White House said Monday that Fox anchor Tony Snow is likely to accept the job as White House press secretary, succeeding Scott McClellan.

The sources said they expect him to announce his decision within the next few days.

A source familiar with the discussions said Monday that newly appointed Chief of Staff Josh Bolten asked Snow to make a decision by early this week.

Two sources familiar with the discussions said Bolten wanted to fill the post this week, as early as Tuesday.

For some reason, however, we seem eager to copy the examples of Nikita Khrushchev and Leonid Brezhnev, down to the ritual use of musty cant. The Kosovo action transforms war from an instrument of conquest into something far more intrusive -- a tactic for building more perfect societies. Lenin talked about creating the New Socialist Man. The Clinton-Blair duo rhapsodizes about the New Europe, as if bombing sorties will instruct the world in the fineries of Western etiquette.

NATO is edging toward becoming Europe's hegemon by mounting a secular version of the crusades. We bomb to signal our disapproval, even if the villains pose no direct threat to us. Slobodan Milosevic makes an inviting poster boy for this expansion because he's a bad-haired goon.

(snip)

I don't want to downplay Milosevic's treachery, but it is important to remember that Kosovo was relatively peaceful until we decided to help

Bad for themselves because I don't believe Snow has that "thinking on your feet" quality.
Sure, his lips are securely fastened to Buxh's ass, and he's good at following marching orders, but he wont be good at using the right words to avoid embarrassing the White House. They'll regret this.

I would have thought a better choice would have been Torrie Clark. She frustrates the hell out of me with her carefully crafted choice of words, and her steely gaze can be hard to read.

This is another White House embarrassment waiting to unfold, I'll give him six months.

How are they supposed to re-establish credibility when they hire a Fox News pseudo journalist, spinmeister for tnis job? I realize there's a certain mount of spinning that goes along with this job but Snow is a thumb in the eye to the press corps and reinforces the notion of FoxNews as in house Bush propaganda outlet. He did an interview with Bush and gurgled how thrilled his wife was to be working in Bush's campaign. He also was assigned to attack John Kerry. Here's an example of the kind of destructiveness he used against John Kerry:

131. With news breaking on a network, the rules are sometimes overlooked.
You can't exactly link to a hairdo on a screen.

Usually, the poster will add a link when one becomes available.

However, CNN didn't post their exclusive until over an hour later, after the editing time expired.

I added the link down the thread.

127. Right-Wing Bias
So if Snow takes the job will people stop claiming that Fox News is fair and balanced. For all the claims of left-wing bias, I do not think any other press secretary has come from a new channel. I think this would be the last straw in show that Fox News is actually bias toward the right.

I listened to him on XM last week. He spent his whole show asking his audience whether he should take the job or not. Sooo worried about neglecting his kids.

But what an insult to the WH! First of all he supposedly hadn't actually even been offered the job yet. WTH interviews for a job and before it is offered starts talking about whether to accept it or not? Plus, he was so torn about what to do- what an insult to Bush. I'm surprised Bush didn't scratch his name off the list right then. I would have.

""I expect to see him at the podium in just a few days, in the press room at the White House," Fred Barnes, editor of The Weekly Standard and a FOX News contributor, said Tuesday.

"They’re looking at a number of people, and 'the great mentioner' has said that I’m one of them," Snow told FOX News' Bill O'Reilly last week.

Other possible replacements include former Pentagon spokeswoman Victoria Clark and Dan Senor, the former Coalition Provisional Authority spokesman in Iraq. Senor, now a contributor on FOX News, served the U.S. civil administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer.

Sources said Snow is the president's first choice, but he needs the all-clear from his doctors before he takes the job. Snow is recovering from colon cancer."

FOX Facts: Tony Snow Bio

WASHINGTON — Tony Snow will be named new White House press secretary on Wednesday morning, FOX News has learned. Snow is expected to be at the White House for the announcement. He has been mulling the offer for the last several days.

Long before the announcement, oddsmakers were banking on Snow, host of FOX News Talk's "The Tony Snow Show," to be tapped for the highly visible White House post.

"I expect to see him at the podium in just a few days, in the press room at the White House," Fred Barnes, editor of The Weekly Standard and a FOX News contributor, said Tuesday.

179. "I think he can handle (NBC's) David Gregory"--umm..

......The talk radio host was given a clean bill of health by his oncologist Tuesday, following a CAT scan and other tests that were undertaken last Thursday. Sources said Snow was President Bush's first choice, but he needed the all-clear from his doctors before he takes the job. Snow is recovering from colon cancer.

"He would like to do it. If he gets an OK from his doctor, I expect it will be Tony Snow and the press will welcome him with open arms," Time magazine columnist Margaret Carlson said during the day.

"He has a great common sense, a great understanding of the issue. He is able to do it with good humor. We see him handle cancer with good humor, I think he can handle (NBC's) David Gregory with that same great humor, but also be somebody who would really communicate to the American people in a good common sense way," said Barbara Comstock, a former director of research and planning at the Republican National Committee. Gregory is known to aggressively challenge current White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan during daily press briefings.

182. Sources: Snow Accepts White House Press Secretary Post(WP)
Fox News commentator Tony Snow has decided to accept the White House press secretary's job after top officials assured him that he would be not just a spokesman but an active participant in administration policy debates, people familiar with the discussions said yesterday.

Snow's appointment could be announced as early as today. The only potential obstacle would be the results of a CAT scan taken Thursday, which he hopes will reveal no recurrence of the cancer that forced him to have his colon surgically removed last year, these sources said.

A director of speechwriting for President George H.W. Bush, Snow views himself as well-positioned to ease the tensions between this White House and the press corps because he understands both politics and journalism, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the appointment has not been announced. White House officials said they expected an announcement this week but declined to comment publicly on the search to replace outgoing press secretary Scott McClellan.

Snow would be the first Washington pundit -- in his case, one who has been an outspoken ideological voice -- to take over the pressroom lectern. "President Bush hates responding to the press, hates responding to political enemies -- he thinks it's beneath him," Snow said on Fox News in March. "He's got a stubborn streak." What the president needed, he said, was "a series of vigorous defenses" of his position.

207. He's perfect for Bush.
what really matters is how long he will last. he is no dummy and if he is treated with the same dissing as scottie, he won't last long.
By the way, I am speaking of the dis going on from within. NOT FROM THE PRESS CORPSE. The Bushes cannot tell the truth to anyone for any length of time, ergo they will lie to Tony. He has too much pride and will leave. It will not last for long.

Gawd, I can't wait until Snow's first meltdown.

He's probably their umpteenth choice but they needed to name someone soon. You don't put a person who has a short fuse in such a position.

But hey, he knows *, is a pseudo-journalist (pundit) and, most importantly, Tony's from TEXAS. :P :puke:

Tony Snow says he'll accept job as Bush spokesman
Fox News host reportedly assured of having a role in policy debates

By HOWARD KURTZ
Washington Post

WASHINGTON - Fox News commentator Tony Snow agreed Tuesday night to become White House press secretary after top officials assured him that he would be not be just a spokesman but an active participant in administration policy debates, people familiar with the discussions said.

A director of speechwriting for President George H.W. Bush, Snow views himself as well-positioned to ease the tensions between this White House and the press corps because he understands both politics and journalism, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the appointment has not been officially confirmed. An announcement is expected today.

Snow will become the first Washington pundit — and an outspoken ideological voice at that — to take over the pressroom lectern at a time when tensions between journalists and the administration have been running high, about issues such as the Iraq war to investigations involving leaks of classified information.

Dee Dee Myers, a spokeswoman for President Bill Clinton, said that if Bush wants smoother relations with journalists, "Tony has stature. He understands how the press works from both sides. He has a big personality, and that can be helpful." But she noted that Snow has "a long paper trail" and would have to defend policies he has criticized.

229. the latest sucker...
"I think he's excited by the idea of being on the inside," Hume said. "He believes he will be at the table when decisions are made. For someone of his bent, that's too good to pass up."

no Tony, only Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and their clique have access to the descision making process. if you think you are going to be part of it, you are an idiot and a sucker. that's what Paul O'Neill, John Snow, Gale Norton, and all the rest thought too. If they won't listen to Cabinet Secretaries, what makes you think they're going to listen to you?

this is such a bad career move, but I must say, it does show he's a true believer, not simply a mediawhore.
