Iraq cabinet to be ready in 15 days: PM designate

Iraqi prime minister designate Jawad al-Maliki said on Tuesday that he hoped to have his cabinet line-up ready for submission to parliament within two weeks.

“I believe that in the next 15 days we can have a new government and present it to parliament,” he told state television.

Maliki, who is to replace outgoing Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari after he agreed to step down to end four months of deadlock over forming a new government, said agreements reached during negotiations over his own candidacy applied to posts in a future cabinet and would speed its formation.

“We have prior agreements ... that makes our work easier,” he said.
