Poll suggests Iraq PR push falls short
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- More than half of Americans believe the United States erred in sending troops to Iraq, a poll released Tuesday said, indicating that recent White House efforts to rally support for the war have not been successful.

In the poll, carried out by telephone Friday through Sunday with 1,012 American adults, 55 percent said they believe the United States made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq, 39 percent disagreed and 5 percent said they had no opinion.

The poll, done for CNN by Opinion Research Corp., has a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points for most questions.

Tuesday's findings are within the sampling error of CNN/USA Today/Gallup polls carried out on the same topic in January, February and March. That implies national sentiment has changed little, despite a public relations offensive by President Bush and administration officials.

2. And this despite 24/7 propaganda by FOX News.
Bush is not able at this point to move out of the public's percpetion that he fibbed, that the consequences of the fibbing are horrendous, and that the sum of his works has been negative for the country and world.

Not even the evil fixer James Baker can "win" Iraq at this point, I don't believe.

6. The problem with their PR effort is that is IS a PR effort
That is, it's not rooted in reality. The fact that we've rebuilt a school that we blew up is supposed make us overlook the fact that teachers are being beheaded? The fact that Bush doesn't attend funerals or allow public viewings of coffins coming home is supposed to mean that our troop AREN'T being killed? Bush bragged of closing Saddam's rape rooms when he's having prisoners tortured and sent off to gulags? You can't fool all of the people all of the time!
