Iran to speed up atomic programme if hit by embargo
Iran to speed up atomic programme if hit by embargo
27 April 2006

TEHRAN: Iran said it would freeze ties with the UN nuclear watchdog and speed up its atomic programme if it were hit by international sanctions.

"If you impose sanctions, Iran will suspend its relations with the (IAEA) agency," chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani told a conference on nuclear issues in Tehran.

"Suspension means we will accelerate our activities."

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who like other Western leaders accuses Iran of having a secret programme to build nuclear weapons, said in Greece: "I suppose the Iranians can threaten, but they are deepening their own isolation."

Leave it to Rice, the target of a riot in Greece only yesterday, to criticize Iranians for "deepening their own isolation". Pot calling kettle black, maybe?

1. Isolation, shmiesolation!
Hell, hemmed in as they are by Afghanistan to their east, and Iraq to their west, to say nothing of their immediate proximity to Bahrain, they'll have absolutely NO TROUBLE getting goods and services into their country. You pay the smuggler's fee, and off ya go--just like Iraq and Afghanistan did in the old days. Uday and Qusay, to say nothing of Saddam, may not have ordered those first run DVDs off of AMAZON, but they had them, nonetheless.

Who's gonna enforce a seagoing embargo? Who's gonna cover every inch of the Persian Gulf? Steaming along, day in, day out...that shit gets expensive, and ties up the fleet. You think we have high operating costs NOW?????

Who's gonna cover the CASPIAN? Who's gonna watch the Turkish border??? Over Lake Van and through the woods, to the Ayatullah's house we go!

The whole concept is absurd, a smuggler's dream come true, and it ain't like the "coalition of the willing or billing" are lining up to help us out, here....

3. no one is going to embargo
no one is going to invade
no one is going to do nothing

iran has the second largest reserves of oil in the world and natural gas reserves not far behind. there is`t a country in the world that will disrupt this supply.

not even bush
