Treasury's Snow says U.S. economy in 'sweet spot'

WASHINGTON, April 26 (Reuters) - Treasury Secretary John Snow said on Wednesday the U.S. economy was in a "sweet spot" and said it was important not to unleash protectionist trade forces out of anger toward China.

Interviewed on CNBC television, Snow was asked whether Congressional anger at China's reluctance to let its currency rise might foster passage of legislation that puts up barriers against imports.

Snow said the U.S. economy was performing well, which he attributed substantially to Bush administration tax cuts, and said he hoped that cuts in capital gains and dividend taxes would soon be approved by Congress.

"We're in a sweet spot for the economy and we see it in the daily numbers," Snow said. "You see it in the (March) durables orders this morning, up 6.1 percent, I think we'll see strong growth for the first quarter on Friday when that's reported," strong (April) jobs numbers the following Friday when that's reported."

The estimated population of the United States is 298,593,971
so each citizen's share of this debt is $28,005.95.

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of
$2.06 billion per day since September 30, 2005

6. If you grew up in the 80's,
And were told we were having a booming economy then too, ahem, it was just like this. Shake off anything about economics that you've ever learned from anybody who said the 80's had a booming economy. It was only great for defense and the junk bond kings and the like. Not for working people. We had a couple of years with Clinton, and that's been it since the 60's.

7. Gross
Do we really have to listen to stupid opinions as well as the sound of boot licking? And I for one don't want to hear a press secretary use terms like sweet spot. To describe ANYTHING.

You're an embarrassment and an asshole, snow.

Hmm, I guess that matchs snow and bush make a perfect match.

9. You know it's a sweet spot if you're
1) an Asian Banker (China, Korea and Japan are the three largest foreign holders of US currency)

2) a member of the Rpoyal family in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, The UAE, Brunei, etc.

3) an owner of lots of Halliburton stock.

4) the owner of a large repo company or deal in foreclosures

5) a sociopath who thrives on the misery of others to make you feel good.

17. The more they say it, the more pissed off people get
These scumbags were at least decent enough in the past not to believe their own bullshit. I think they've slipped over the edge into precisely that. I'm going to have to start posting some "Welcome to the Desert of the Real..." posts for economic news...
