(CA) State Senate Endorses Monday's Immigrant Boycott
(AP) SACRAMENTO State senators are endorsing Monday's boycott of schools, jobs and stores by illegal immigrants and their allies.

By a 24-13 vote that split along party lines, the Senate Thursday approved a resolution that calls the one-day protest the Great American Boycott 2006 and describes it as an attempt to educate Americans "about the tremendous contribution immigrants make on a daily basis to our society and economy."

Immigrants make up a third of California's labor force and a quarter of its residents.

Opponents say the non-binding resolution is misleading because it fails to mention a goal of the boycott was pressuring Congress to legalize millions of undocumented people.

1. I like the endorsement. It's a muddied issue all around, but the
importance of some kind of resolution, even if it's incremental, is vital to California. I'm sure the resolution will be vilified in some quarters, and it is definitely political, but in the long run, it will help push folks to address the situation as more than a drive by part of the landscape.

2. It means that immigrant bashing has limited legs as an issue ..
.. and we can push back on outsourcing, unionbusting, and excessive executive pay, while pushing for a living wage law ...

4. Great, this will send a signal. An endless supply of complacent
illegal workers for the corporations to make billions. Sure lets support illegals and leave our borders wide open. This will guarantee that most people will come to the US illegally. Come one, come all, American corporations just love your support. They can pay illegals $9.00 an hour when they are paying Legal Immigrants $19 an hour. It's a CEO's wet dream come true. All a smart businessman need do is let off his illegals for one day and he can almost guarantee a never ending supply to bust Unions and eliminate any semblance of a middle class. Just what Cesar Chavez fought for... Oh wait.

6. Yes, same mistake Cruz Bustamante made a few years ago
Blatant pandering, so bad IMO it risks triggering a conservative backlash.

:scared:
