Iran ignores nuclear deadline
Iran has ignored the 30-day deadline set by the UN security council to stop its uranium enrichment programme, the UN nuclear watchdog ruled today.
As expected, Dr Mohammed ElBaradei, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), delivered a negative verdict on Tehran's nuclear programme.

The report said Iran had done little during a 30-day grace period to answer a series of questions about its programme that could determine whether it was solely for civilian purposes.

...

The focus will now move to a meeting next week in which officials from the US, Britain, France, Russia and China - the permanent UN security council members - and Germany will discuss imposing sanctions.

It is not clear, however, what will be decided at the meeting; Moscow and Beijing reiterated yesterday that they remain opposed to punitive measures.

1. This is the part that worries me...

The US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, has said previously that he plans to introduce a resolution requiring Tehran to comply with the council's demand to stop its enrichment programme.

The resolution would not call for sanctions now, but it would be introduced under chapter seven of the UN charter, which allows for sanctions and is militarily enforceable.

2. Don't worry about it.
I severely doubt any serious military action will take place against Iran. Simply because not only would the situation worsen within Iraq, it would most certainly draw neighboring nations into the fray. Right now Armenia and Azerbaijan are poised to get into another shooting war. Also, Turkey would not sit idly, nor would many of the Stans where internal strife is at the breaking point.

4. Yes, and there's BIG Brother who just
emerged: on Yahoo news, there is an article about this issue. It says "China opposes UN resolution 7 on Iran".

That just about closes the case. Russia and India are calling China right now and telling them, "Thanks, buddy". You showed Bolton a thing or two.

Now let's see Big Mouth Rice talk about the "International Community".
