Italy to remove 'Da Vinci Code' ad from church scaffolding

ROME – The Interior Ministry said Tuesday it would remove a poster promoting “The Da Vinci Code” movie from the scaffolding of a Rome church undergoing renovation after its clergymen complained, officials said Tuesday.

The enormous poster, featuring a picture of Da Vinci's “Mona Lisa” and the title of the upcoming film, has been plastered for a few weeks on the scaffolded facade of the church of St. Pantaleo, which is located just off a major thoroughfare in Rome's historic center.

The Rev. Marco Fibbi, a spokesman for Rome's Vicariate, said the poster was “causing a problem.”
“This movie is not reputed to be particularly appreciated by ecclesiastic circles,” Fibbi said.

Church officials have spoken out repeatedly against the best-selling novel by Dan Brown...

21. Where's the Legion of Decency when they're really needed?

When I was growing up Catholic, the Legion of Decency rated films, A, B, or (shudder) C -- C for "condemned." We were told that it was a mortal sin to see a C film. Sounds like the Vatican would like to make this move "The Da Vinci C." ;-)

The question is...what is the church really hiding? Why do they find the movie so offensive? Obviously this isn't the only film to attack the church.

15. I think they're hiding Opus Dei

I thought that the book was fun to read, but the main thing that struck me was the existence of Opus Dei which I, as a lifelong (apparently head-in-the-sand) Catholic knew absolutely nothing about. It not only horrified me, I was even more shocked to find that there were a number of fairly well-known and influential people who were members (Scalia, Santorum, Tom Monaghan, etc.) Forget the sacred feminine and the Knights Templar. I'll bet they're even getting leaned on by Opus Dei.
