Democrats assail 50-year-old (R) lawmaker for attending fraternity party
http://www.whotv.com/Global/story.asp?S=4834394&nav=2HAB

WASHINGTON Republican Congressman John Sweeney's late-night partying at a fraternity is raising eyebrows.

A spokesman for New York Democrats asks what a 50-year-old congressman could be doing "cavorting with students 30 years his junior" at one in the morning. Blake Zeff asks if Sweeney was "teaching them how a bill becomes a law. "Sweeney stopped at the Alpha Delta Phi party at Union College in Schenectady over the weekend. The college newspaper ran a photo of the lawmaker posing with students.

...a bit more...

Did he play any "frat" pranks like they do at Abu Ghraib?

1. I'm 30, and I would feel out of place at one of those things
Though I wouldn't mind a little private time with a few sorority girls.

5. Is it possible he's an Alpha?
Some of those Older "frat boys" never grow up...and they are "nominally welcomed" at their old frat houses.

Still, it's massively inappropriate, IMHO.

11. Why you ask
Well if any of these students drinking, is under the legal age limit, then it's a little inappropriate for a member of the US House of Representatives to be promoting under age drinking by joining the party!

If an under age soldier is caught drinking his chain of command will charge him, fine him, possibly
reduce his rank, and make that soldier do extra duty after regular duty hours.

12. I'm all for mixed ages nearly all the time.
It's just way past weird for an elected official, thirty years older than everyone else, being the star attraction at a frat beer blast.

6. Is it not an election year?
Do 20 year olds not vote?

I mean come on, of course this guy is gonna do whatever it takes to get votes - even if that means "partying" with frat boys (like that is such a hardship :) ).

7. More power to him
and to hell with all the fussbudgets tut-tutting about how "appropriate" it is. The surest sign of someone who's having no fun in their life is when they condemn someone else who *is* having fun. Heh heh.

Glad to see someone who's got a little kick left in those heels. His political sensibilities, otoh, leave a little to be desired...

Peace.

10. I wonder if he is gay and he was shopping for a younger guy?
There is nothing wrong with being gay but repugs have a habit of playing the anti-gay card and then turning up gay. Some of you investigators might want to do a little poking around. Pun intended.

13. This is a lame issue for the NY Dems to make an issue out of
Aren't there a lot more pressing issues concerning Republican political malfeasance for them to worry about?

16. Here's another link
http://blogs.timesunion.com/capitol/?p=983#comments

This guy is my congressman and we intend to replace him in November. He's one of the worse, buddies with DeLay, in charge of the young GOPers at the fiasco in FL in '00. He is no model of morality.
