Bush Lampoons Self at Press Corp Dinner By ELIZABETH WHITE, Associated Press Writer
8 minutes ago

It was twice the fun for members of the White House Correspondents' Association and guests Saturday night when President Bush invited a look-alike, sound-alike sidekick to poke fun at himself and fellow politicians.

"Ladies and gentleman, I feel chipper tonight. I survived the White House shakeup," the president said.

But impersonator Steve Bridges, stole many of the best lines, referring to Vice President Dick Cheney and his hunting accident on a couple of occasions.

"Speaking of suspects, where is the great white hunter," Bridges said, later adding. "He shot the only trial lawyers in the country who supports me."

16. Thank you OhioChick and thanks to you Judi Lynn for putting
it up.

That was some performance by Steven. The greatest summation of how rotten this administration and junior's cronies indeed are, very well done.

I don't think the crowd was too enthralled.

18. When posting a link to a blog entry, always use its PERMALINK
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 09:45 AM by rocknation
and you won't have to worry about it "disappearing" as time goes by. Posting the link to the actual file should be avoided because the blogger might re-archive it to save bandwidth. Here's the permalink to the Colbert dinner entry, which you'll be able to use long after the story moves off C&L's home page.

Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 12:59 AM by Harvey Korman
The presstitutes will completely "forget" the Colbert thing. By tomorrow, they'll pretend it never happened, and the highlight of the event was actually the Chimp playing with his own feces for laughs.

And it just not that funny. It certainly didn't deserve all the laughs it got. I can't believe how quiet they were doing Colbert's routine.

28. It was a totally undignified thing to do. Made jr look like an even bigger
ass in the eyes of the world. Why would anybody subject themselves to ridicule like that? It was totally
inappropriate and showed a complete lack of judgment.

21. MY God, this man
is such a disgrace. And I don't mean Colbert. Can you imagine any other president doing something like this? Who?

As I read down the thread, I thought about the time when Bush did a parody skit of himself. He was looking under the desk for WMD's. I don't know how many people laughed at that, while people were getting shot and killed in Iraq.

Now don't get me wrong. Bush DOES draw the laughs. I've heard him say stupid things that he meant to be serious. But he always goofs it up, and people start guffawing and chortling. So I think he figured that out: he's a clown.

A Killer clown.

26. I say we make * trade jobs with the impersonator ...
Edited on Mon May-01-06 11:48 AM by Lisa
Bridges can at least get a laugh now and then (he does the Bush impression on Leno's show) and he isn't quite as embarrassing as the actual George.

p.s. it would have been kind of creepy to see someone who looks so much like Bush, pronouncing words correctly.

http://www.alternet.org/mediaculture/35674

"Earlier, the president had addressed the crowd with a Bush impersonator alongside, with the faux-Bush speaking precisely and the real Bush deliberately mispronouncing words, such as the inevitable "nuclear.""

29. oddly enough, Bush portraying himself as a hypocrite ...
... might be more "truthy" than he is willing to admit. What bets he really WAS whining to himself about how much he hates having to make nice with people he loathes? (Probably wanted to put Colbert in a headlock ...)

"Bush began his speech to more than 2,000 journalists, politicians, cultural and sports celebrities with the requisite formalities, but his cheeky "sub-conscious" soon set the light-hearted tone for the night.

"Here I am in one of those press dinners ... I got to pretend I like being here," Bridges said"
