Bush takes to road to boost his standing (Less Time For Crawford Vacation)

WASHINGTON - Forget the hot, dusty weeks relaxing at his Texas ranch. President Bush, still down in the polls and grappling with grave matters on the world stage, is breaking his summer routine this election year to travel the country and boost the standing of his presidency and the Republican Party.

With Republicans nervous about keeping control of Congress and worries about the future of Iraq, Iran and North Korea, White House officials have decided too much is at stake this year for Bush to spend so much time on vacation. He'll spend some time at the ranch, but it will be less than previous summers and interrupted by more time on the road.

Since he's been president, Bush has spent the better part of every August largely out of sight on his ranch. It hurt him most last summer, when anti-war activists camped outside his property and drew attention to the mounting deaths in Iraq. Then Hurricane Katrina hit, forcing him to end his vacation several days early.

This year, Bush's travel among the people is designed to show that he's a likable guy and remind Americans why they elected him. The White House is gambling that more exposure to the president in local media — where the coverage tends to be softer — will offset the harsh realities of a slowdown in the economy and trouble in Iraq.

1. He Needs To Be Met With Protests EVERYWHERE He Goes
Within reason, as some locations or venues may be restricted, but there needs to be well organized protesting at each site, so that even if he blabs and shakes hands with wealthy supporters, or military troops, the media will have to cover the anger directed towards him, while he "poses" to improve his sad excuse for an approval rating.

President Bush in Chicago for Topinka Fundraiser
This Friday, President George Bush will be in town to host a fundraiser for Judy Baar Topinka. Since the President so rarely graces us with his esteemed presence here in Chicago, we're going to help roll out the blue carpet for a proper Chicago welcome. Let's tell the President, and Karl Rove's pick for Governor, Topinka, that the GOP has taken America in the wrong direction. We need your help to send a loud message, please join us this Friday from 11 AM to 1 PM.

George Bush and Judy Baar Topinka: Wrong Direction for America, Wrong Direction for Illinois.
Friday, July 7th
11 AM - 1 PM (Speaking Program Begins at Noon)
Assemble Outside the Drake Hotel -- the Gazebo in the Park on the north side of E. Oak, East of Michigan Ave.

16. history is being re-written before our eyes
"Then Hurricane Katrina hit, forcing him to end his vacation several days early."

that is a crock of shit. He left to go to McCain's birthday party and to see some old folks about screwing them out of social security.

He did NOT go back to work early for anything, especially New Orleans.

LIARS!!!:grr:

18. Forcing? I saw those pics of him sitting there like a lump ...
... in that briefing room in his Crawford mansion, as the hurricane bore down and even "Brownie" was yelling at him to do something.

Bush wouldn't know "forcing" if he experienced it (which is something the entire White House seems to go to extraordinary efforts to avoid doing).

He didn't respond until New Orleans was already drowning, and his aides were making a DVD of the news for him to watch, since Heaven Forbid that an American President would show the slightest interest in a crisis involving, oh ... part of America?

19. things are so bad, even the vote-rigging might not work...
so bush has to go out in the field and pretend to raise his poll numbers so they have an excuse for why the exit polls don't even come close to matching the election results.

22. Ho-hum--this isn't gonna be a winner--
If he wants soft coverage, he has to do his usual "preaching to the choir" venues--that won't win any already p.o.'d people back. If he goes for a lukewarm local audience (mixed), he's liable to say something awkward (that's pronounced "dumb".) And it's getting so he can't talk to the regular folk at all, at all (too risky.) And I nearly pity the poor Republican congress-hopeful who Bush turns his warm attention to.

(Please, dear Bushie--hug Santorum for me, would you?)

The last seven years this guy has been campaigning for something, even after the vote was fix...I mean, in. He'll spend his last, lame duck days on his legs, and that's fitting, no?

Of course, some Turd Blossom pixie dust could fall and possibly make this swine airborne--but it would truly have to be something outside of the "stay the course" stump speech. Watch the front page for terra. (Wasn't there a Bin Laden tape supposed to surface? Is Miami's poorest neighborhood free of potentially violent, er, effective, I mean somewhat hardly competent on a good day quasi Al-qaida cells?)

Bad poll numbers are, though. It's stupendous to see that his priorities are straight.
