Blanco asks Bush to declare Aug. 29 national day of prayer

Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco has written a letter to President Bush asking him to declare Aug. 29 as a national day of prayer. The date marks the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's landfall.

Blanco also invited the president to Louisiana during the week leading up to August 29 to participate in events honoring the lives lost due to Hurricane Katrina, according to a news release on the website of the Louisiana Recovery Authority, www.lra.louisiana.gov

It also highlights the Katrina fiasco and helps bring attention to the continued plight of her state. As an added bonus, it hurts *.
