Jordan's king accuses Israel of 'criminal aggression' in Qana attack
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 09:53 AM by Tom Yossarian Joad
Associated Press
Published: Sunday, July 30, 2006

AMMAN, Jordan — Jordan's King Abdullah II voiced his strongest criticism of his Israeli peace partner on Sunday, saying an attack on a southern Lebanese village was "criminal aggression" which targeted innocent civilians.

At least 50 people were killed Sunday in an Israeli airstrike on Qana — the deadliest attack in 19 days of fighting. The Israeli army said it targeted the village because the militant Hezbollah has repeatedly launched rockets from the area on Israel.

Abdullah condemned "the ugly crime perpetrated by Israeli forces in Qana, which led to the killing of innocent civilians, including a large number of children and women," said a statement released by the king's press office.

"This criminal aggression constitutes a blatant violation of the law and all international conventions," the king said.

Abdullah repeated his call for an "immediate cease-fire."

Iran called on Sunday for Israeli and American government officials to be prosecuted for what it described as war crimes in Lebanon.

1. Er...uh...wait...wasn't that one of our friends three weeks ago
I wonder if Queen Nur will make the same claim on her next US book tour.

Needless to say, the apologists for the IDF will claim that Abdullah is only saying this because of the "Arab street." (A Tom Friedman special: how often does one have to be wrong before losing credibility as an "expert"??) Et tu nice Mr. Handsome British Educated Abdullah?

2. Olmert is making Israel's situation worse.
not better. Actions like this erode what slim support Israel still has. Much like the US actions in the aftermath of 9-11 destroyed the sympathetic outpouring that occured almost worldwide.

3. They (Israel) may have just signed in for their own destruction with this
last airstrike.

If Syria, Jordan and the Saudis join with Lebanon and Iran now that even the WH has spoken out against the strike and cannot back Israel, things don't bode well.

4. Not really..
Syria is going to do nothing since the Israeli's have whipped them every time they've attempted to act like a power. None of the other states around Israel want to get their military destroyed yet again by the IDF. As far as diplomatic problems Israel has only one real ally, the US. They are quite used to the rest of the world being against them.

6. Syria alone, you are right.
But a concerted effort by an allied force of Saudis, Jordan, Iran, Lebanon and the Hezbollah?

I think Israel needs to back away from this before things get to that point.

8. Nah
Isreal got 300 nukes
And they will use it if they losing bad.
It is more likely that Isreal will use nuke than Iran or North Korea.

Isreal has always chart a path of war.
Ultimately something bad will happen.

11. That about sums up the current situation.
The despotic leaders in Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are worried about having the unwashed ransack their palaces and string them up by their balls, not about attacking Israel.

The Syrians will do nothing and will get blown up anyway. Iran, safely out of range, will continue to work on its goal of shiite dominance. From their perspective things are working out quite well.

Meanwhile the PNAC crowd is doing its best to get their war on.

7. Please spare me with this rhetoric.....
the rest of the world is NOT against Israel, just their current actions. I am getting tired of hearing about the world being against Israel or being anti-semite when they are being condemned only for their actions in Lebanon. You might say the world is against the US too because of our involvement in all of the ME mess.

The rest of the world is NOT against Israel, just the current actions of the stupid (and criminal) neocon government there.

15. strongly agree.
It's disturbing that voicing an opinion against any single Israeli action is taken as being against Israel's right to exist.

Dude didn't you post almost the exact same thing under a different alias?
God I wish the paid posters would learn to vary the script.

12. All empty talk.
These Arab elites do nothing to defend Arab interests. Just talk. Just to prevent them from being justly booted out.

17. What I mean is, they should take action.
They need to take action to oppose the Israeli aggression. If they fail to use the resources at their disposal to this end, they are complicit.
