Israel Defense Forces invades hospital

Israel Defense Forces troops, acting on information that the building was a Hezbollah base, attacked Lebanon's Al Hekme Hospital this week.

Integrated Regional Information Networks said that the IDF invaded the hospital in the city of Baalbeck on Tuesday, reportedly killing 10 Hezbollah militants and capturing five others.

While Hezbollah has denied Israel's claim, Baalbeck officials said that all patients had been evacuated earlier and that any individuals left in the hospital were Hezbollah personnel.

Yet some area officials have contradicted these claims, stating that IDF's attack claimed the lives of at least 11 civilians.

The tip was that the hospital was a base, not a hospital. The tip was almost certainly not from an Israeli.

What kind of sick fucker tips off your enemy to assault a hospital caring for your own citizens?

That would be Hezbollah, which is deliberately using the outrage of readers like you as part of their defense. But Hezbollah needs fresh, dead Lebanese every single day for their plan to work, and to do that, they have to set up incidents like this.

That is not equally evil to the brutality of the Israelis. It is far, far worse.

Right now, everyone with a hand in the Middle East--including the United States--is acting like amoral barbarians. But there are degrees of evil and planning the deaths and suffering of your own people for better press coverage far, far exceeds the incompetent brutality of the Israelis who are repeatedly rising to Hezbollah's bait.

If you fail to understand that then the past six years of American history might as well be out the window.

You want a specific person? Then wait them out.

You don't invade a hospital

It's the exact same thing as what the US is doing at Gitmo and other secret camps. It's just bullshit words strung together so they can do exactly what they want to do without regard for long-standing, international Law.

10. You are right, and I am wrong.

I'm sorry, MsMagnificent. I should have known better than to trust the Washington Times (the article cited in the original post). I thought that "acting on information that the building was a Hezbollah base" suggested that the operation was a botched job.

However, other articles now make it clear that it was a carefully planned commando operation, and there is no doubt that the exact function of the building was known in advance. What is in doubt is the later Israeli story that the hospital was evacuated in advance of the raid. That's probably bullshit, too.

Therefore, I retract my above statement and apologize to you.

However, I stand firm by my contention that all parties in this conflict are worthy of our contempt. It would appear that within a day of the Israeli raid, Hezbollah paid back in similar coin.

Right now, everyone in the Middle East is acting like an asshole.

An attack on a hospital, the killing of an entire Lebanese family, the seizure of five men in Baalbek and a new civilian death toll - 468 men, women and children - marked the 22nd day of Israel's latest war on Lebanon.

The Israelis claimed that helicopter-borne soldiers had seized senior Hizbollah leaders although one of them turned out to be a local Baalbek grocer. In a village near the city, Israeli air strikes killed the local mayor's son and brother and five children in their family.

Outside the shattered Dar al-Hikma hospital in Baalbek yesterday stood two burnt cars and a minivan, riddled with bullet-holes. Hizbollah, it seems, fought the Israelis there for more than an hour. The hospital, which includes several British-manufactured heart machines, was empty when the Israeli raid began and was partly destroyed in the fighting.

The Lebanese army, which has tried to stay out of the conflict - heaven knows what its 75,000 soldiers are supposed to do - was attacked again by the Israelis yesterday when they fired a missile into a car which they claimed was carrying a Hizbollah leader. They were wrong. The soldier inside died instantly, joining the 11 other Lebanese troops proclaimed as "martyrs" by the government from a logistics unit killed in an Israeli air raid two weeks ago.

The obscene score-card for death in this latest war now stands as follows: 508 Lebanese civilians, 46 Hizbollah guerrillas, 26 Lebanese soldiers, 36 Israeli soldiers and 19 Israeli civilians.
