Security Agencies OK on News-DirecTV Deal
Nov. 30 — WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. national security officials have given a conditional green light for media conglomerate News Corp Ltd. <NCP.AX> <NWS.N> to acquire control of Hughes Electronics Corp. <GMH.N>, according to regulatory documents filed.
Australian-based News Corp. and Hughes, the communications company that operates satellite television service DirecTV, agreed to limit its audit committee membership to U.S. citizens who would be solely responsible for policies related to U.S. national security and law enforcement concerns.
