Bush envoy meets Sunni leader in Iraq (James Baker)
Former U.S. Secretary of State James Baker, who heads an independent panel charged with taking a fresh look at U.S. policy in Iraq, met one of the most senior Sunni leaders in the Iraqi coalition government on Friday.

Baker held talks with Deputy Prime Minister Salam al-Zobaie in his offices in the Green Zone government compound in Baghdad. Zobaie has been meeting Sunni tribal leaders as part of the government's efforts to defuse a bloody Sunni insurgency.

"James Baker was the engineer of U.S. foreign policy for many years. He has been sent by George Bush personally to find out the reality of what is happening in Iraq."

The White House said in March the Iraq Study Group would provide an independent look at the "way forward" in Iraq. Panel members have spoken little of their work on it. They include retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, former CIA director Robert Gates, former Attorney General Edwin Meese and former Defense Secretary William Perry.

Doesn't he already fucking know? He keeps telling us everything is going great. He isn't lying is he? Besides he already has 150,000 military personnel there. Betcha they could tell him.

9. they will not be re-visiting the sins of the past:

......The White House said in March the Iraq Study Group would provide an independent look at the "way forward" in Iraq.

In its September issue, Washington Monthly magazine, which is critical of Bush, said the Iraq Study Group was "trying to devise a fresh set of policies to help the president chart a new course in -- or, perhaps, to get the hell out of -- Iraq."

A surge in sectarian violence has derailed U.S. plans to begin withdrawing some of its troops this year. Washington has boosted troop levels from 127,000 to 140,000 in recent weeks to help the Iraqi government regain control of its capital.

10. Washington Post: Deceptive Bastards!
As are all the corporate media...

As noted on the TvNewsLIES.org news page:
http://www.tvnewslies.org/news/#war

"Why does the Washington Post refer to James Baker as the former Secretary of State and not as a current senior partner at the law firm of Baker Botts and senior counsel to the Carlyle Group; a war profiteer?"

18. but it remains to be seen how well he'll succeed this time around.
For both sides to end their civil war, Bakerbot will have to offer them something. What can he offer? I guess he'll just push US closer to $10 trillion in debt instead of $9 trillion if the Iraqis will end their sectarian violence by November so * can look like a hero.

For once I'd like these asses to settle with their own money instead of ours, since they lied us into this mess.
