(Swiftboat offshoot) War Veterans Lend Support to Lieberman In TV Ads
HARTFORD, Sept. 1 — An independent group, Vets for Freedom, will begin sponsoring television commercials early next week for Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, thanking him for his support of the war in Iraq.

Vets for Freedom is a group of veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and has ties to top Republican leaders.

The ads feature four Connecticut veterans, who look directly at the camera and appear to finish one another’s sentences, after introducing themselves as veterans of the wars.

“When we were over there, it was important to know that someone had our back,’’ one veteran says.

“Like Senator Lieberman,” adds a second.

The ad continues with four phrases, with each veteran saying one: “No matter how complicated it got,’’

“He was there for us.’’

“Now that we’re home, we’re here for him.”

“He stood with troops and their mission.”

bolding of the words in the article is mine.

The NYT is going batty. First they say the Swiftboat Vets for Freedom is independent and then they say the group has has ties to top Republican leaders. What a sorry rag the NYT has become.

4. Everything that's happening proves that I was right about Leiberman.
NOT A DEMOCRAT! Or they wouldn't LOVE him like they do.

Does anyone wonder what his interests were in 2000 and if any of these people were spurring him on?

6. I've been reading Henry Lissinger's memoirs
and it is odd how weird this stuff gets. We have to sne more boys to die to jusify the deaths of thos e who have already died no matter what mistakes my predesessors did in sending those earlier boys to their deaths. sound familiar? that is what Kissinger said and pretty clearly he despised his boss Nixon. amazing what people do and think while sending others to die, not as if Bush or Kissinger or Rumsfled or Cheney would ever lead a combat squad into battle or that any combat squad would accept theses clowns as a squad leader. pray for the troops. they have been abandoned by their leaders.

8. Amazing how he can just slip right into the republiclown/
Rovian campaign mold.
Distressing.
I hope this lesson is not escaping the thoughtful majority of the Ct voters. We can do better and we deserve better.

9. Yeh. I'm sure the soldiers over there just cannot wait to get back
to base so they can have dinner and sit around talking about what a great senator Joe Lieberman is...and how much safer they feel, knowing that he wants them to stay there...indefinitely..and how proud he is about sending them there :eyes:

11. Almost. Bill Kristol and Dan Senor are behind it.
Plus the NYT says Lieberman's former chief of staff is also involved.

The article is very clearly wondering if this is all GOP sponsored, how did the group get a nonpartisan rating as a 527.

The group was put together this summer (about the time Lieberman lost the primary).

12. Dear God
Joe LIEberman must be defeated.

Joe has chosen his faith over his constituents. He is on board with Bush because he wants to help Israel, America be damned.

Not only is he no Democrat, he is as big a treasonous traitor as Bushco et al.

Fuck him and anyone who votes for him.

13. I notice that Lieberman skipped Viet Nam
It seems odd that veterans would say "he had their back", at least as far as that war goes.

"Lieberman never served in the military. A spokesperson told the Hartford Courant in 1994 that Lieberman received an educational deferment from the Vietnam War draft when he was an undergraduate and law student from 1960-67. Upon graduating from law school at 25, Lieberman qualified for a family deferment as he was already married and had one child, Matt. The draft ended in 1973.<8>"

16. Yes, Lieberman Even PROTESTED The War
and the group who torpedoed Kerry for protesting the Vietnam war is now siding up to Joe because he has the "right" politics? Good grief.
