al-Qaida's Deputy Issues New Videotape

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Al-Qaida's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri issued a new
videotape Saturday along with a man identified as an American member of the
terror network, inviting Americans to convert to Islam.

The 41-minute video, posted on an Islamic militant Web site, had footage
of al-Zawahri and a man the video identified as Adam Yehiye Gadahn, an American
who the FBI believes attended al-Qaida training camps in Pakistan and served
as an al-Qaida translator.

An American thought to be an al-Qaida activist appeared in a videotape with the terror group's deputy leader Saturday and called on his countrymen to convert to Islam and for U.S. soldiers to switch sides in the Iraq and Afghan wars.

The 48-minute video, posted on an Islamic militant Web site, had footage of al-Qaida's No. 2 leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, and of Adam Yehiye Gadahn, a 28-year-old American who the FBI believes attended al-Qaida training camps in Pakistan and served as an al-Qaida translator.

It was the second time Gadahn appeared in the same video with al-Zawahri. In a July 7 video marking the one-year anniversary of the terror attack on London commuters, Gadahn appeared briefly, saying no Muslim should "shed tears" for Westerners killed by al-Qaida attacks.

It sounds, from the yahoo story, that he's calling on our troops to convert. If we support them perhaps we should get them the hell out of Iraq and Afghanistan?

And what happened on 9/11? Did they forget to issue the call to conversion? Or did the news media forget to tell us? or maybe the bush administration forgot to tell the news media?

The message of convert to Islam or die has now set the stage for the WAR ON TERROR to be interpreted as a religious war, and one which GOPers will exploit

New GOPer fear and smear meme: if terrorists win we will be worshipping in Mosques. Not only do they hates our freedoms they also hates our religion. Look for this to be whipped into a frenzy among the fundamentalist religious groups. Don't be surprised when Robertson, Falwell (et al) go on the air to scare, nor when GOPers shift their poltical campaign venues to church appearances and the blatherhead talk shows feature christian religious leaders discussing the threat to "religious freedom"
