(Jimmy) Carter to build homes in Lonavla (India)
Former US president Jimmy Carter will lead around 2,000 volunteers from across the world later this year in building around 100 houses for low-income families in Maharashtra.

The project, called Jimmy Carter Work Project (JCWP), will be implemented in partnership with Habitat for Humanity India Trust (HFH India Trust) and Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) at Patan village, Lonavla, near Mumbai.

The houses will be primarily for families headed by women. HFHI had late last month formally teamed up with SAMPARC (Social Action for Manpower Creation), based in Maval sub-division near Mumbai, to officially pave the way for the project.

A formal memorandum of agreement was signed at a special ceremony at the SAMPARC Balgram village in Maval, near the hill resort town of Lonavala.

4. That IS a sad reality of USA government, PNACers killed the other one
.
.
.

JFK was just as good as Carter, but JFK was stronger

That's why they killed him

and that's when the USA became NOT the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave anymore . .

and never will be again

5. He should go to New Orleans
Help to build new homes there. Take care of your own first. Flame me, if you wish, but our own people down there need help.

6. Not from me and I love Jimmy Carter, but there is so much to do in
NOLA, MS, that the priorities, IMHO, should be here I think I'll ask in the MS forum to try to get info. about a grassroots group there that is similar to The CoomonGroundCollective that is in NO. At least I'll know that any contributions that I make will go towards rebuilding efforts here at home.

9. The JCWP is an annual event sponsored by the Carters,
this one in India marks the 24th year I believe. The last one was in Michigan last summer, and I was fortunate enought to be a part of it that year. The event in India was already being planned then, as the JCWP alternates between the US and a foreign country each year.

I was also fortunate enough to be able to help build the first post-Katrina Habitat house in Slidell, LA, last October. Habitat has been very active in the gulf coast region since Katrina, just as they have been instrumental in helping communities devestated by the 2004 tsunami around the Indian Ocean. I've personally watched Carter work, and he does more than his fair share of labor. But his biggest impact is in his continuing support for Habitat, wherever it may be; it is a tremendous boost to the effort to eliminate sub-standard housing throughout the world.

I'm not flaming you at all, as I understand what you are saying. But poverty housing is a world-wide problem, and Habitat is an integral part of helping those people in need, both at home and abroad. Having Carter skip India that week and come to NO instead wouldn't really change the impact of the work that is already being done there. In fact, given the present situation and our falling status in the eyes of the world, having Carter visit a foreign country to help people in need might go a long way in repairing the US's reputation.

7. More Bibles!
I hope they enjoy the free bible.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter presents a Bible to a new homeowner in Durban, South Africa, during the 2002 Jimmy Carter Work Project.

11. The RW smear machine actually ridicules Carter for his humanitarianism
as well as other things.

Here's one young Republican chickenhawk, ridiculing the name of the USS Jimmy Carter submarine:
..................................................................................
"I'M JUVENILE
but I can't get over how ridiculous a the sound of a Jimmy Carter attack sub is. The enemy trembles."

...............................................................................................
If this dweeb had spent more timing getting his facts straight and less time listening to Rush Limbaugh, he might have discovered that fmr. President Carter is a former Navy submarine officer.
