Study: Terror Cases Now at Pre-9/11 Rate

By MICHAEL J. SNIFFEN

WASHINGTON (AP) - The federal government has fallen back to prosecuting international terrorists at about the same rate it did before Sept. 11, according to a study based on Justice Department data.

The surprising decline followed a sharp increase in such criminal prosecutions in the year after the attacks, according to a study released Sunday by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, a data research group at Syracuse University.

The analysis of data from Justice's Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys also found:

In the eight months ending last May, Justice attorneys declined to prosecute more than nine out of every 10 terrorism cases sent to them by the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other federal agencies. Nearly 4 in 10 of the rejected cases were scrapped because prosecutors found weak or insufficient evidence, no evidence of criminal intent or no evident federal crime.

4. So most of those "headlines" about breaking up terrorist cels........
and capturing terrorists on the streets of our country are............bullshit? :wtf: They're carefully orchestrated dog and pony shows, government propaganda, designed to give the American people the illusion that we're winning the "war on terra'"?

Our Republican controlled government continues to lie to us at a pace that would make a Whirling Dervish dizzy? Our Corporate Media doesn't report these FACTS, they'd rather report lies and innuendo, carrying the Bush Administration's water for them?

I find this hard to believe. :eyes: Our President would never lie to us (he's the moral compass of our country, after all) and the "Liberal Media" would be all over this like white on rice if it were true. Right? :sarcasm:

9. "...illusion that we're winning the "war on terra'"? "
No, they're designed to give the American people the illusion that we are under constant, unrelenting attack by terrorists.

In truth, the only terror being spread is by the administration.

I have been blogging with two American idiots on the London of Times blog site of Mick Smith (Downing Street Memo fame). I humored them a couple days ago by following their instructions to Google "Mohammadens arrested in the U.S." (I had to substitute terrorists for Mohammedens) because they're such an enormous threat to our safety! I did the search and found insignificant material....NOTHING of any substance! Which was my point in the blog. A few minutes ago I sent a response with a couple of paragraphs of your sited article!!! Thank you.
:yourock: :applause:

Edit: K&R!

8. Will we hear about this from the rightwingers?
The scuttlebut from the rightwingers like Rush You-know-who is that President Clinton did it all wrong by prosecuting them through the law, instead of chopping off their heads or something. Not hearing much from them about this.

11. Which probably means lower rates of prosecution than under Clinton.
Since some of Bush's first acts once in power were to drop as many of Clinton's anti-terrorism initiatives as he could drop.
