Poll: Mich. Governor's Race about Even (Granholm 46 - DeVos 44)
(09-03) 11:32 PDT Lansing, Mich. (AP) --

A poll published Sunday shows the race for Michigan governor is about even.

In the poll of 803 likely voters by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines, Iowa, 46 percent of voters said they'd back Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm if the election were held today, while 44 percent would back Republican challenger Dick DeVos and 10 percent were undecided.

A Selzer poll in July showed DeVos leading Granholm 47 percent to 42 percent. Eight percent were undecided, and 3 percent were counted as "other."

Michigan is a closely watched state as Democrats try to hold and win governorships and try to wrest control of Congress.

1. This makes me feel ill ...
Michigan has not fared well under the Chimp or Michigan's Republican congress ... so many are holding Granholm solely accountable.

Devos is a corporatist right-wing nut ... the thought of him as governor makes me want to vomit.

5. 7 pt swing in Granholm's favor in 2 months while being outspent by DeVos
should make you feel less ill, no?

6. Why? The momentum (which is what really matters) is in our favor. (nt)

9. The momentum is "Throw the bum's out" here
However, it certainly isn't giving Devos anything certain ... I attribute this to his personal smarminess.

11. Michigan is hurting
The repuke before her has really fucked up the state more than anyone can ever fix in just one term as Governor. Unemployment is close to being twice the national average. People are leaving the state in masses (in fact, rental truck companies were having a problem with keeping trucks in the state. As more left in one way moves than came in).

People want it fixed and fixed now. That is where this "Throw the bum's out" attitude is coming from. However, why get rid of someone that is honestly trying to fix the situation for someone that be worse the Engler was?

13. Welcome to DU Joldnir
I agree ... It's the west side of the state that I worry about. It's just going to take a lot of work to get people to understand just how bad Devos will be for the state.

3. If anyone can toss her a dime or two, it sure would help.
DeVos is a multi, multi millionaire, has already spent a fortune on this election, and has a lot of support and backing from the BFEE. He would be so bad for Michigan, and it would be really bad for the '08 elections, too.

4. DeVos would turn Michigan into a Pyramid Scheme
ala Amway...which they renamed because of its lousy reputation.
