Republican ads show distance from Bush
Republican ads show distance from Bush

By DAVID HAMMER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Republicans who were once cozy with President Bush are distancing themselves from both the president and their party in campaign ads.

Consider Rep. Deborah Pryce (news, bio, voting record), the fourth-ranking House Republican struggling to hold onto her seat in an evenly split district in central Ohio, near Columbus.

In 2004, her campaign Web site featured a banner of her and Bush sitting together, smiling. But in her latest television ad, Pryce is described as "independent." The spot also highlights how she "stood up to her own party" and the president to support increased federal funds for embryonic stem-cell research.

As chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, Pryce rallies colleagues to the party message.

1. Dems have a golden opportunity here: When Reps run ads like this...
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 02:59 AM by DRoseDARs
...find the photos/videos of them cozying to Bush or his adgenda and run those in their ads. Openly call into question their opponent's belief in the intelligence the voters when they try to run ads implying they've always played the "maveric" like Sen. John McCain. Dems need to pound the shit out of this bull. Make them squirm and make the voters see it.

2. that's exactly the tactic. once we see them backpedalling on their support
for junior, all we have to do is constantly publish their previous worshipping of the confounder-in-chief.

11. Or better yet, make them answer for it. "Sir, you said you disagreed
with Mr. Bush on such and such--why do you hate America?"

Let's play this Rove's way and see how he likes it.

10. Absolutely. I only wish McCain were running this year--I'd personally
see to it that he was wearing the President like a poplin shirt--and sweating (as he is wont to do) all over him!

Plenty of photo ops there.

Another example of great minds thinking alike--I wrote this back in July, LOL!

13. Aren't they typically independent, just like the other Republicans?
Thanks for the look at their predictably independent, "think for yourself" ads. It's a great time to be Republican.

Deborah Pryce, Mark Kennedy, and Jim Talent stealing a little time with their elegant hero.

9. voting record, voting record, voting record...Amen
I thing Democrats should focus on incumbent Republican's voting records.... its truthful.... its not inflammatory its like giving them a "performance evaluation" so help me if I have to have one every year so should constituents be provided with voting records of their congressmen... So if Democrats don't have a great record... its time to start working on the needs of all your constituents and remove yourself from rhetoric.

want, so be it. One day they'll figure it out.

8. Distancing is not going to work for the Republicans.
Back when they were the most diabolical and antidemocratic opposition party in modern times, they could run on euphemistic terms like "security" and "growth" and "compassionate conservatism."

Now that they're the most diabolical and antidemocratic majority party in modern times, it's become "war," "greed," and "hatred."

The best part is that they've spent a billion dollars programimg the American public into knowing without thinking that the Democrats are against all those things. Now that those things aren't fun abstractions anymore, the people know exactly where to go to change it.

12. As they distance themselves, we can win some moderate RW voters
without sacrificing a single issue or talking point.

When they try to squirm away, simply imply that they aren't supporting the "war on terra" or that their allegiance to the great President is lacking. Joe Six-Pack stays home on Election Day, or even votes for his own best interest for once.

Rove created the game--let's watch him play now that we've learned it!

14. "He's Bush's choice--Is he yours?"
That's what Jon Corzine asked about his Repub opponent in a commercial during the NJ governor's race. Won by ten points.

And if we can't nail these people agreeing on Bush policies, then we should try to nail them on taking Bush money.

P.S. Also, perhaps we should be prepared to make such commericals ourselves!

GOP candidates billboards, signs and such -- they're the ones that make no mention of the candidate's party affiliation!

Perhaps somebody should count up the total number of votes these jackals have cast against the Bush edicts and run an ad.

18. Jim Talent-Missouri apparently okay with having Bush's support
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 05:02 PM by MODemocrat
According to our local news, Bush is coming to Kansas City to a fundraiser for Jim Talent. I'll bet they would all appreciate a handout of the taxpayers' money if they could do it "under the table."

Talent has voted with Bush most of the time, he's against stem-cell research, he's repulsively conservative, and has no re-course but to have Bush backing him. Talent's a liar just like Bush, so, he will be in good company.:puke: :freak:

Sometimes it makes me ashamed to be a Missourian. Maybe Claire McCaskill will change that.

Here's to Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Kathryn Shields of Kansas, both great women!!!!!!
:toast:   :dem: :loveya:

Edited to correct an omission: I had accidentally deleted a line.
