MEXICO CITY - Mexico's national electoral court announced Monday it will convene on Tuesday to announce its decision over the disputed July 2 presidential elections.

The Federal Electoral Tribunal could declare a president-elect or annul the vote during its session.

Supporters of Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador have camped out in the heart of the capital since July 30 to protest the official version of results from the July 2 vote, which gave ruling party candidate Felipe Calderon a narrow lead of about 244,000 votes.

Last month, a partial recount overseen by the seven judges reduced Calderon's advantage by only 4,000 votes.

Mexico City - Mexico's electoral tribunal is set to announce on Tuesday the final results of the country's controversial presidential elections, though it is unlikely to assuage supporters of the presumed loser.

Mexico's Federal Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary (TEFPJ) said in a statement Monday that it will hold a public session Tuesday to announce the final vote tally.

Leftist candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador claims he was robbed of victory in the July 2 election after official counts showed him losing to conservative Felipe Calderon by just 0.58 percentage points.

Lopez Obrador has threatened to start an alternative government if the results don't go his way, and has led street rallies in the capital for weeks to protest what he alleges was a fraudulent victory by his opponent.

According to Mexican legislation, the tribunal must review all complaints filed on the election and has until September 6 to announce its final verdict. The seven-member court is set to make its decision public one day before the final deadline.

The fifth Oaxaca Mega-March called by the Popular Assembly of the People of Oaxaca (APPO in its Spanish initials) for Friday, September 1, passed a fixed point for an hour and a half, with a total number of participants that I estimated to be at least 50,000. (The newspaper Las Noticias estimated more than 300,000.) The march began in the affluent San Felipe del Agua neighborhood, where normally one might really believe the refrain of Governor Ulises Ruiz Ortíz (“URO”) that “no pasa nada” (“nothing is happening”).

The crowd crossed into the center of the city and finished its lively march by setting down their effigies of URO in the zocalo. One hung upside down from a trash bin.

From the zocalo bandstand the crowd heard the leader of Section 22 of the teacher’s union, Enrique Rueda Pacheco, declare that the President of Mexico Vicente Fox had been obliged to withdraw from the chamber of deputies in the capital without being able to deliver his final Informe, (state of the union message). Instead, Fox’s speech was delivered later, by TV and print, while only a few hours after Fox’s ignominious departure, Rueda Pacheco declared that Oaxaca will not only fight forever until victory (“hasta la victoria siempre,” quoting from Che Guevara), but will fight on the national stage for a people’s government.

“We have a national movement,” he said. “We call for national unity, including the PRD (Party of the Democratic Revolution), the Zapatistas, and all the nation.” But he made it clear that that the APPO has no link to armed groups: “We have no link, no relationship and no coordination with any armed guerilla organization… we respect all forms of struggle; people participate in their own ways.”

was that it was "announced" as a Big Lead when people went to bed and woke up to find out that the margin wasnt even close, i never was able to find out which Mexican news services were saying he had a certain % lead, that never materialized, all i know is that it sounded familiar. MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico's electoral court will name ruling party conservative Felipe Calderon president-elect on Tuesday, rejecting claims the fiercely disputed July 2 vote was unfair, sources said.

Losing left-wing candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has alleged widespread vote-rigging, but the seven electoral court judges tossed out his fraud claims last week and they are to deliver their final ruling on Tuesday.

Sources close to the court said on Monday the magistrates would declare the election process was clean, give a final vote count and confirm Calderon's razor-thin victory.

"Everything appears to indicate the vote will be unanimous,'' one of the sources told Reuters.

The election campaign and the fraud claims have split Mexico and posed a serious challenge to its young democracy just six years after President Vicente Fox's historic victory ended seven decades of one-party rule....
