White House: Rumsfeld replacement 'not going to happen'

WHITE HOUSE (AP) - While the White House says it's made significant progress in the war on terror, Democrats are demanding that the architect of the war strategy step down.

But the White House says that's "not going to happen." And spokesman Tony Snow says administration critics are playing politics by trying to turn Defense Secretary Rumsfeld into a "bogeyman."

Leading Democrats have written to President Bush demanding changes in "the current civilian leadership." House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, her Senate counterpart Harry Reid and ten others say it's time to reject a "stay the course" policy.

But Snow says Rumsfeld's departure would be "lousy strategy."

5. No problem. A Democratic Congress will castrate you all.
I don't want Rumsfeld to be allowed to "resign".

I want a Democratic Congress to run him through a shredder next year.

Stick around, Rummy.

16. Rummy & Bush seem to be the only ones who understand that when you're
getting your ass kicked in two wars already, you attack someone else. Rummy laughs in the face of danger and understands that the 25,000 casualties we've already suffered are nothing compared to the results we're getting. A US General said it would be 18 more months before the Iraq army is prepared. I guess we're training them to be brain surgeons also.

17. Cheney and Rummy go way back, together.
Cheney is the one in control, and no way in hell is Cheney going to cut his soulmate loose. I doubt if bush has any say in this matter at all, but he postures as if he does.

Rummy's ties and loyalty are to Cheney, not to Little Boots.

18. Hang onto Rummy and lose Congress
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 01:31 PM by lebkuchen
That's the deal.

Rummy telling the 172nd Stryker Brigade that he's not Santa Claus was worse than his calling you or me Nazi sympathizers.

Rummy is the deal breaker as far as voters are concerned. Keep him, and you lose a branch of govt. in return.

rummy & darth cheney have been the power twins since nixon's resignation. Don't see one w/ power w/o the other in the background.

22. A principal in the troika and 911 co-conspirator he's locked in...
...for life. The third party is the bush family. Dear old dad is hanging in there. The current scandal and lawsuit exposing Barrick Gold and Morgan conspiracy to illegally manipulate gold markets indicates the bushes are still very much in power.
