Bush compares Bin Laden to Hitler

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5318204.stm

Bush compares Bin Laden to Hitler

President George W Bush has compared Osama Bin Laden to Lenin and Hitler in a speech to US military officers.

"Underestimating the words of evil and ambitious men is a terrible mistake," he said as he quoted extensively from Bin Laden and other al-Qaeda figures.

He said the world had ignored the writings of Lenin and Hitler "and paid a terrible price" - adding the world must not to do the same with al-Qaeda.

...

But, he added, the US and its allies could be confident of victory in "the great ideological struggle of the 21st Century" because "we have seen free nations defeat terror before".

10. Hitler and the Soviet Union had more than words.
Hitler had an Army of 13 million, with an air force, Panzer divisons, etc.

The Soviet Union during the cold war had a 5-millon man Army plus ICBMs with atomic warheads pointed at every US city.

Bush can't tell the difference, but anyone with a brain should be able to.

This latest rhetoric is nuts, its like if Ford threw the whole US armed forces against the Symbionese Liberation Army because they talked about revolution and taking over the country.

25. Lenin? How did he join the bad guy club?
The czarist system he toppled was far worse than the USSR under Lenin. Lenin was no Ghandi, but he's not in Hitler's league. Now Stalin is another story.

As to the Hitler comparison, besides the fact that Hitler controlled one of the most powerful countries in the world, with several million armed soldiers who had tanks, artillery, rockets, airplanes, and battleships, and bin Laden lives in a cave in the remotest part of Pakistan with a few hundred ill-equipped fanatic followers, it might be an accurate comparison. But what made Hitler really bad was the he DID control a powerful country. Bin Laden doesn't even control a town.

101. I don't find much to back that up.
Lenin didn't assume power til 1917, and was incapacitated by stroke in 1922, and dead in 1923. During that time, Russia was attacked again during WWI, and fought a 3 year(+) civil war. Millions died from war and starvation during the 2 wars, and there were atrocities committed by both the Red and White armies. Unless you hold him accountable for those deaths, he's no worse than Pinochet or the Shah of Iran.

105. I don't understand what you're trying to say
He assumed power in 1917, and was disabled by a stroke in 1922. And...?

This is from the online Sparknotes on Vladimir Lenin:

"While Trotsky was displaying a ruthless military genius in leading the resistance against the Whites, Lenin was overseeing the horrific "Red Terror", which began in earnest in September of 1918 (just after the assassination attempt, not incidentally) and continued throughout the civil war. Thousands were massacred for opposing the Bolsheviks, thousands more for simply belonging to the wrong class–for being "kulaks," or wealthy peasants, a group that Lenin repeatedly compared to vermin and "bloodsuckers"...It was Lenin who blithely permitted the Red Armies' campaign of raging anti-Semitic violence. It was Lenin who approved the cold-blooded execution of the entire Imperial family, including women and children. It was Lenin who allowed the new secret police, the "Cheka," to take innocent hostages at random–and shoot them, if necessary–to secure the grain supply. It was Lenin who exiled all political opposition, including the Mensheviks. It was Lenin who, in every way, institutionalized terror as a method of state policy, establishing both the system of deportation to concentration camps and the practice of political murder that his successor Stalin would hone into such effective weapons."

109. Lenin was hardly anti-Semitic.
Lenin's fight against anti-Semitism

After the revolution, Lenin worked hard to combat Anti-Semitism in Russia. In a radio speech in 1919, Lenin said: "The Tsarist police, in alliance with the landowners and the capitalists, organized pogroms against the Jews. The landowners and capitalists tried to divert the hatred of the workers and peasants who were tortured by want against the Jews. ... Only the most ignorant and downtrodden people can believe the lies and slander that are spread about the Jews. ... It is not the Jews who are the enemies of the working people. The enemies of the workers are the capitalists of all countries. Among the Jews there are working people, and they form the majority. They are our brothers, who, like us, are oppressed by capital; they are our comrades in the struggle for socialism. ... Shame on accursed Tsarism which tortured and persecuted the Jews. Shame on those who foment hatred towards the Jews, who foment hatred towards other nations." <15>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenin

Atrocities happen, especially during revolutions against the wealthy. What happened in Russia was little different from what happened in France during the French Revolution. Thousands of innocent people were executed for the crime of being well-to-do then as well. Does that mean Robspierre was as bad as Hitler who executed 6 million Jews? I don't think so.

Yes, 'thousands were executed for opposing the Bolsheviks' but thousands were also murdered by the Whites for supporting them.

"White Russians had been raiding many settlements and the word was getting around. Cossack bands rode into villages beating, abducting, torturing, and murdering villagers. Friends and relatives of loved ones killed by the rampaging bands became instant converts for the Red partisans. A US Army Intelligence officer remarked that "a lot of people who did not necessarily coincide with Bolshevik beliefs, and did not necessarily coincide with the other forces, were obliged to take one of those two sides because the only two military forces existing were of the two extremes."

Colonel C. H. Morrow, the commander of the 27th Infantry Regiment, heard reports that Generals Semenov and Kalmykov were indiscriminately killing people up and down the railway line. He dispatched investigation teams to determine the validity of persistent rumors and reports that it was the Cossacks committing the atrocities. One team’s investigation near the village of Bobinka collected considerable evidence that one of Semenov’s commanders, General Levitsky had gone on a bloody rampage. In his report lieutenant E. Davis wrote that there were "a dozen corpses with their hands cut off lying in a heap." He went on to describe that many showed that they had been burned while still alive. None of the numerous saber cuts on all the bodies "proved to be immediately fatal." One of the bloodiest raids took place in the spring of 1919. General Ivanov-Rinov’s forces attacked a village using among other weapons, heavy artillery from one of the ‘Destroyer’ trains. Destroyer trains were heavily armored trains. Provisions were made in each railcar for small firing slots for rifles while 1 or 2 flatbed cars were modified to have a armor protected artillery piece. One of the shells hit a schoolhouse, killing the teacher and 27 of the children inside. The armored trains ran up and down the railway at the whim of the White Russian officer in charge. The crew or sometimes local officials would arrest someone and bring them aboard the train where they could be whipped, tortured, or taken somewhere they could be shot. The charge of suspected Bolshevik was incapable of being disapproved. "

I don't dispute that Lenin was responsible for some, perhaps thousands, of deaths. But there are dozens of national leaders in the last 100 years (Somoza, the Shah, Saddam, Batista, Tojo, Mussolini,Pinochet, etc), but nobody would lump them in with Hitler or Stalin. The only way you could possibly compare them is if you blame Lenin for every Russian who died between 1917 and 1923, but blaming Lenin for WWI and the Russian Civil War is really pushing it.

114. Well, I never said Lenin was a saint. Far from it.
My original post just said it was ridiculous to put Lenin in the same category as Hitler. Lenin may have been directly, or indirectly, to blame for several thousand deaths, but Hitler was undeniably directly responsible for millions, as was Stalin. Lenin is much more comparable to the innumerable right-wing dictators we have supported over the years, who used murder and terror to suppress revolutions.

Since you seemed to be equating Hitler and Lenin, I assumed you must be holding him responsible for millions of deaths, which could only mean you were counting deaths caused by WWI, the Russian Revolution, and the starvation caused by those events. Since you are saying several thousand, that puts him behind Charles Taylor, Rios Montt, and Francisco Franco and puts him more in the same league of Pinochet, Moses, or King David.

I just don't understand why Shrubby would suddenly turn Lenin into something close to Hitler.

At this point, Bush has killed more of America's troops than bin Laden killed civilians on 9/11. Hell, Bush has killed more American civilians than bin Laden, not to mention the tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians. The funny thing is, this entire facist/Nazi/Hitler campaign of theirs is backfiring. When they say 'Hitler', the average sane American (not the nutty 22%) thinks 'Bush'. When they say 'Nazi's', the average sane American thinks, 'neocons' or 'far right wing'. When they say 'facist's' the average sane American thinks, 'anyone who still supports the Iraq war'.

35. Another Crazy:Condi uses Civil War to slap Iraq critics
Condi uses Civil War to slap Iraq critics

Secretary of State Rice compared the Iraq war with the American Civil War, telling a magazine that slavery might have lasted longer in this country if the North had decided to end the fight early.

"I'm sure there are people who thought it was a mistake to fight the Civil War to its end and to insist that the emancipation of slaves would hold," Rice said in the new issue of Essence magazine.

"I know there were people who said, 'Why don't we get out of this now, take a peace with the South, but leave the South with slaves?'" Rice said.

Rice also bristled at the notion that the Bush administration's slow response last year in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was because of the race of the majority of the victims.

NY Daily News

****

So the left and liberals and democrats and whoever is critical of the Iraq war are on the same side as the slave-owning Confederacy?

Either a Nazi or a plantation owner, I guess?

Impeach his stupid ass and put the rest in jail...

First they mesh Iraq and 9/11 together so a majority of Americans can't tell them apart. Then they turn Osama's face into Saddam's.

Now they're trying to turn the "War on Terror" (so-called) into WWII.

Nevermind that Bush clearly doesn't give a shit about finding Osama or not and has enacted policies that reflect his position.

Bush the Tyrant runs around calling the President of Iran a tyrant.

War. War. War. That's all these people have left.

Bush Uses Bin Laden Quotes for War Rally

Sep 5, 7:43 PM (ET)

By NEDRA PICKLER

WASHINGTON (AP) - Quoting repeatedly from Osama bin Laden, President Bush said Tuesday that pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq would fulfill the terrorist leader's wishes and propel him into a more powerful global threat in the mold of Adolf Hitler.

With two months until an Election Day that hinges largely on national security, Bush laid out bin Laden's vision in detail, including new revelations from previously unreported documents. Voters were never more united behind the president than in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, and his speech was designed to convince Americans that the threat has not faded five years later........

To make the administration's strategy more clear, the White House on Tuesday published a 23-page booklet called "National Strategy for Combating Terrorism," which Bush described as an unclassified version of the strategy he's been pursuing since Sept. 11, 2001. The booklet's conclusion: "Since the Sept. 11 attacks, America is safer, but we are not yet safe."
........

"A new glossy strategy paper doesn't take the place of real change that will make our country safer," said Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis........

49. here are some of the documents and quotes:

.......To make his case, the White House cited previously unreleased documents including a copy of the al-Qaida charter found by coalition forces in Afghanistan that says hostilities will continue until everyone believes in Allah.

One document Bush cited was what he called "a grisly al-Qaida manual" found in 2000 by British police during an anti-terrorist raid in London, which included a chapter called "Guidelines for Beating and Killing Hostages." He also cited what he said was a captured al-Qaida document found during a recent raid in Iraq. He said it described plans to take over Iraq's western Anbar province and set up a governing structure including an education department, a social services department, a justice department and an execution unit.

The White House also unveiled a letter from bin Laden to Taliban leader Mullah Omar in which he wrote about plans for a "media campaign to create a wedge between the American people and their government" so the people will pressure leaders to retreat in the fight.

Bush also quoted bin Laden saying:

- "Death is better than living on this Earth with the unbelievers among us."

- Al-Qaida can cause the U.S. economy to collapse by implementing a "bleed-until-bankruptcy plan."

hmmm, where in the world would OBL have learned that?

and all that aside, what a strange confluence of events to have such a capable enemy in a time of such incompetent leadership. I suppose they are two sides of the same coin, if you have incompetent leadership that's the only time you have a capable enemy. See: Clinton.

In other words, Clinton didn't fall right into their strategy, wouldn't take the bait.

That's Bin Laden back during the first gulf war days. That quote was taken from a man who had spoken with bin laden during that time and was a scholar turned adviser to US Forces. You can read all about this type of history in a book called "Ghost Wars"

But anyways, bin Laden would like to personally thank George W Bush and THE PROJECT FOR THE NEW AMERICAN CENTURY and their leaders such as Dickless Cheney, Donnie Rumsfeld, John Bolton, and other neo-con allstars who made up Bush's A list for cabinet positions for being the best contributors to further his agenda of terror.

They also said one week ago that the bush White House and Verizon were going to be slapped with a subpoena, and that there'd be an announcement outside the NY Verizon HQ that same day.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/BREAKING__Bush_White_House_subpoenaed_0829.html

If it ever actually happened, no one--including RawStory--has reported further on it.

65. Spare me your sarcasm: Yeah, I AM right.
All you've linked to is one AP story (republished on various sites), one AFX story (also republished on various sites), and the Raw Story item (posted on infoshop, whoever they are). That's three sources for the initial story. But only Raw Story mentions the press conference that was "confirmed" for "4:30 PM, outside of Verizon headquarters in New York." As far as I've seen, nothing more has happened in the week that has passed. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Did the announcement take place on Tuesday last week as Raw Story reported? Yes or no, I would have expected follow-up. That there seems to have been nothing at all suggests to me that you guys--for whatever reason--aren't interested in following up, or if need be, correcting your reporting.

Maybe I'm just too naive in expecting a news organization to follow up on their own exclusive information, but whatever. Just calling it as I see it.

I think we go out of our way to correct any mistakes that we make...more than most news organizations on the web or off.

Why not take the time to write us first...and ask if there's a follow-up on the way?

Instead you implied that our story was falsified. Your first comment didn't suggest that you just thought we weren't "interested in following up." And since you included the subpoena itself in your first comment you also were inferring that we were the only ones who reported that story at all.

The Raw Story editor who spoke to the lawyers and wrote that story left on a business trip that same evening last week...but I'll speak to him tomorrow about us following-up on that...and to find out if that press conference went on as we were told it would.

68. Thank you.
I didn't imply anything, at least not intentionally. Instead I was regrettably ambiguous in post #12 about what concerned me, and as a result we both ended up misunderstanding each other. My apologies.

If you were on DU last week you would have seen that there were 173 votes for this story to be promoted to the Greatest Page. I trust you understand that's an incredible number of votes. However, a day or two later, it was as if the story had never happened in the first place. DU is a great place for information, and so I thought someone who frequented Raw Story more than I would have responded to a couple of posts I'd made, wondering about what ended up happening.

Next time I'll remember to contact you folks directly. Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing whatever came of the press conference the lawyers promised.

Cheers.

72. Bush compares Bin Laden to Hitler
5 September 2006

President George W Bush has compared Osama Bin Laden to Lenin and Hitler in a speech to US military officers.

"Underestimating the words of evil and ambitious men is a terrible mistake," he said as he quoted extensively from Bin Laden and other al-Qaeda figures.

He said the world had ignored the writings of Lenin and Hitler "and paid a terrible price" - adding the world must not to do the same with al-Qaeda.

<snip>

"Bin Laden and his terrorist allies have made their intentions as clear as Lenin and Hitler before them," he said.

But, he added, the US and its allies could be confident of victory in "the great ideological struggle of the 21st Century" because "we have seen free nations defeat terror before".

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5318204.stm

Odd how with these speeches lately when they accuse others of all sorts of evil things, they really seem to be talking about themselves?

No Bush, bin Laden has nothing to do with Hitler, but you seem to be created in his image and likeness.

73. He should have used Goering's quote
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

74. Bin Laden also said:
"those who say that al-Qaida has won against the administration in the White House or that the administration has lost in this war have not been precise, because when one scrutinises the results, one cannot say that al-Qaida is the sole factor in achieving those spectacular gains.

Rather, the policy of the White House that demands the opening of war fronts to keep busy their various corporations - whether they be working in the field of arms or oil or reconstruction - has helped al-Qaida to achieve these enormous results.

And so it has appeared to some analysts and diplomats that the White House and us are playing as one team towards the economic goals of the United States, even if the intentions differ."

76. Bush compares terrorists to Nazis
President Bush said yesterday that the war against Islamic militants was like last century's fight against Nazis and communists and that a US withdrawal from Iraq would lead to its conquest by America's worst enemies.

``The security of the civilized world depends on victory in the war on terror, and that depends on victory in Iraq," Bush said in a speech to rally support for his unpopular war strategy two months before congressional elections. The Democrats responded by accusing Bush of pursuing failed policies that have weakened the war on terrorism.

Nearly 4,000 antiwar protesters demonstrated downtown as Bush spoke before a friendly American Legion convention in one of the nation's most conservative states. It was the first in a series of Iraq speeches by Bush at a time when just 33 percent of Americans approve of his handling of the war, according to an AP-Ipsos poll

There must be as many corollaries to Godwin's law as there are threads that wind up discussing Nazis. But seeing this autocratic, narcissistic, Reichstag-burning corporate-funded fascist motherfucker dare to compare someone else to the Nazis is truly impressive to me.

My own little pet corollary is this: the longer an Internet message board discussion about George Bush lasts, the chances of there being an accurate comparison with Hitler or the Nazis approaches 1.

And yes, as a matter of fact I did make that crap up to excuse myself from constantly comparing these nazis with those Nazis. You know how Hitler and Bush are different? Hitler served honorably in wartime, he never dropped his damned dog, and he was a vegetarian.

That's about all I can think of right now. Fuckin' Nazis. I hate those bastards.

~snip~

Q "But don't you believe that the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead or alive?"

** "Well, as I say, we haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said.
