Alexander aide fired for writing convicted killer


A member of U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander’s staff has been fired after the congressman discovered she was corresponding with convicted killer Scott Peterson while on the job, his spokesman said Wednesday.

“Rep. Alexander decided to terminate Ms. Mares' employment with his office in light of recent revelations that she has been using government resources to personally communicate with Scott Peterson,” Adam Terry said. “Ms. Mares' actions have been embarrassing to our office and demonstrate that her views are politically incompatible with those of the congressman.”

An August story in the National Enquirer reported that Mare sent at least 18 letters to Peterson professing her love for the convicted killer.

“After that, our office conducted an internal investigation and discovered that this employee was, in fact, writing some of the letters to Mr. Peterson on congressional time,” Terry said.

Mares was fired in mid-August, Terry said. She had worked for Alexander since he first took office in 2003.

a partisan issue. If you disagre and believe it's appropriate use of federal funds, which one of the Democrats should hire her for his/her staff?

4. this is one of those cases analogous with wife beating...

...as in, "do you still do it?" No one can credibly say that they think writing love letters on the job is an "appropriate use of federal funds," but that's only part of the question. Was summary dismissal an appropriate response? I suspect that if she had been caught reading a novel on the clock, or balancing her checkbook-- or more to the point, writing letters to her grandmother-- but without her job performance suffering in any obvious way, she'd probably have been reprimanded, maybe, and likely given a friendly reprimand at that. So the real reason for firing her was probably not that she was conducting a personal correspondence while at her desk-- it's more likely because of whom she was corresponding with.

....seems it was all along in hindsight...Rodney Alexander courted the Repukes and turned them DOWN unequivocally with full press covering it...then a few months later he chose to weasel over to the dark side and I know personally from one of his very own former staff members at his offices here that he got a LOT o'money for doin' so....but it still matters not when over in the Senate our very own Mary Landrieu almost consistently votes with the pukes...so it's all fucked up regardless of how you wanna DEFINE it.
