SEATTLE - Dozens of protestors lined the streets of Seattle on Wednesday chanting "down, down FTA" as U.S. and South Korean officials kicked off four days of trade talks.
"The FTA undermines the government ability to protect social and public services like education and health care," said protestor Changgeun Lee, who flew in from Seoul to represent the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.
The trade talks are the first such high-level meeting in Seattle since the World Trade Organization talks in 1999. Nearly 80,000 people from all across the globe converged on the city then and hundreds of people were arrested.
The crowds were much smaller this time but American labor unions and activists joined South Korean workers and farmers to call for fair trade.
