'Pakistan Times' National News Desk 2006/09/07

MIRANSHAH: Security forces troops were withdrawn from check posts in accordance with the agreement at jirga in North Waziristan and Khasadar force had taken positions.

According to sources, the withdrawal of security troops came into effect under the agreement entered into by local Taliban and the government.

However, the Frontier Corps troops which were posted before 9/11 for the extermination of smuggling, would continue their duties as before.

Jirga members said that Jirga members would see Governor NWFP Mohammed Jan Orakzai after his return to homeland.●

7. The link's unlikely to vanish, unless it's routine with
that source.

The news is all over the place, and the negotiations have been reported on for a while. How it would end wasn't a mystery; they just had to finish the dance.

N. Wade in "Before the Dawn" recounts tribal wisdom from New Guinea: In tribal warfare, there are three options. The first is that nothing serious happen, and both sides go away with their honor and pride intact, feeling like they've won; anything else leads to more war. The second is that you're wiped out. The third is that they're wiped out. Anything less than genocide ensures that the survivors feel motivated to fight yet more to regain their honor and dignity. This led to approx. 30% of the tribes on the rather large island being wiped out each century; tribes would assimilate any survivors that were amenable to assimilation, and would spread and split.

By ruling out the latter course of action, we ensure that the first course of action--which denies the ability of a central authority to exercise any real control in the area--is the only one left.

Their is a fourth, and it's the one that spawned most Islamist movements: the dissolution of the tribal mindset through globalization, or at least integration into a larger, national tribe. A lot of people don't like that option, either.

5. I wish someone would publicly ask the US Dictator for his views
on this development. I'm sure it would be something like, "Pakistan is giving-in to them over there, so we don't have to give-in to them over here."

8. Pakistan: Arms swapped in Waziristan
MIRAMSHAH, Sept 6: The political authorities and tribal militants exchanged weapons and vehicles in the North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday as a part of implementation of Tuesday’s peace agreement, sources said.

They said that the administration returned 24 AK-47 rifles and eight pick-ups to the militants in Miramshah. The rifles and vehicles had been seized in army operations in the region. An official said that six more vehicles would be returned to the militants. The militants handed over three G-3 rifles, some wireless sets, berets and badges to the authorities. According to the agreement, both the parties will return each other’s arms and communication equipments snatched in the operations.

Officials said that the authorities had abolished 11 new checkpoints and the army had evacuated outposts in the area. Now tribal Khasadar force and paramilitary troops were jointly manning old checkpoints in the agency, they added. In a related development, the agency’s political administration removed the names of two militant commanders, Maulvi Sadiq Noor and Maulvi Abdul Khaliq, from the list of wanted men, officials told Dawn in Peshawar.

10. Why is this not being loudly discussed in the US media for the
defeat, or at least set-back, for Bush's grand WOT? The little Dictator has been frothing at the mouth for the last two weeks about his successful WOT; and now one of his only "allies" in this shit has just made peace with the Arch Evil-Doers. The US has ceased being just an international laughing-stock, it has become a pitiable lunatic that needs immediate restraint and medication. We are just sad, violent, mentally-ill unfortunates, now. Out of mercy (and world self-preservation) we should just be put down...

11. I don't pretend to really understand world politics,

...but for the last five years I've kept wondering why Pakistan didn't get a little taste of US shock&awe, given all of the behind-our-back crap they pull, especially for giving OBL sanctuary.

It just mystifies me. These are our allies? Is this the best we can get??

Edit: admittedly my posting may be off-topic. But Pakistan just reached its tipping-point with me. Will endeavor to post my rant in response to a more appropriate OP next time.

16. was intrigued as to what the freepers think of this
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 01:06 AM by paagal kutta
in their delusional heads, this gives their Lord a green light to nuke Waziristan. i wont bother posting that crap here, but according to them, pakistan has effectively 'renounced sovereignty' over waziristan, and would blandly look away if bushie was to launch an attack there. just goes to show the level of their intelligence.

but pay attention to this development, something's going on here that may well link up to bush's october surprise.

as for why pakistan does not get a shock and awe treatment, pakistan has nukes and global jehadis in a queue for one of them.

13. In Today's Segment....
of bush's neverending speech to keep us terrified, he said that these Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan are just a few leftover dregs that will be quickly taken care of. I'll bet the house that this statement comes back ( very soon ) to bite the Decider right square in his evangelical ass. All holy hell is going to break out in Afghanistan any day now. I just hope that the foreign press is in the area to keep us informed.
