boulder county Officials: Marine's disappearance staged
Boulder authorities say the disappearance last week of a Marine during a hike was staged.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Steve Powers, 20, on suspicion of false reporting on Wednesday night.

Powers had said he was hiking with Lance Hering, 21, on Tuesday, August 29, when Hering hit his head in a fall.

(snip)

Hering's father said he had returned from a 7-month tour in Iraq about a month ago, and was due back to his unit within a few weeks.

1. Oh, wonderful. Now the local papers are helping the DoD track awol
soldiers.

That's right, just plaster their pics and descriptions right there on the page.
Why don't they just go ahead and offer a reward, as well?

3. It was a pretty big story here
People genuinely thought he was lost until the story came out that he was scheduled to go back to Iraq

7. I'm in denver. I'd do whatever I can to aid in his resistance
He shouldn't have led the police on a while goose chase, but I understand why he did so.

2. I think everybody knew that was the case
I hate to say it but I'm sorry they found him.

We'll see more and more of this as the mess in Iraq deepens

4. I hope he gets away and is never found by the criminal authorities
I wish more of our troops would make the decision to say "No more!"....

if a citizen "finds" this soldier and doesn't help him to keep him from having to go back to that HELL HOLE! Why does the military want him if he will go to this extreme to avoid return to his unit? God, he's got to be a real morale booster! :sarcasm:

Edir: addition: May he be safe.

8. Shock and Awe. What Marines will do to get out of Bush's catastrophe.
Good for him, and I hope that all American soldiers will be free of this disaster. GET off the DIME AMERICA, end this nonsense. It's immoral, you know, worse than getting a blow job.
