Central Asia Creates Nuclear-Free Zone
Fools, now Rumsfeld will invade.

September 8, 2006 -- Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan today signed a UN-sponsored agreement creating a nuclear-weapons-free zone in Central Asia.

The signatories committed themselves not to produce, purchase, or deploy nuclear weapons or any component that could serve to develop such weapons on their territory.

The treaty also forbids third countries from transporting or storing nuclear weapons or materials on or through the territory of Central Asia.

The document was signed in the former Soviet nuclear test ground of Semipalatinsk, in northern Kazakhstan.

2. Interesting. Don't know much about K, K, T and T, but Uzbekistan is
right up there with Bush as to torturing prisoners, and has the most polluted cotton fields on earth (pesticides have killed the Ural Sea). This is the cotton that Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy (the Fisher clothing empire) uses for its jeans and sweatshirts (which are sewn in sweatshops in Saipan and other "corporate free piracy" zones). High cancer rates in these so-called republics--former Soviet Russian colonies--from pesticides and nuke testing. Also, hotbeds of Islamic fundamentalism--but that often happens in areas of intense exploitation and neglect. Islam provides a foundation for community cohesion, cooperation and strength, where governments have failed, and rulers and their global corporate colluders have treated people like shit. The Soviets used these areas for resource extraction (and nuke testing), and otherwise neglected them, leaving "strongman" rulers behind to seize power when the Russians broke up their empire and withdrew. I would say that the leaders of these countries are the last people on earth that I would trust with nuke weapons--less so even than Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld, who wanted to nuke Iran, to get at its oil, and apparently were only stayed by the USAF, which balked at the plan, and other saner countries, like France, Russia and China. Really, the only thing that distinguishes the Bush Junta from, say, North Korea, is that our military are American citizens, care for our country, and have freer access to information and independent judgment. A few more years of Bush Junta rule--and purges of the military and government personnel, in favor of toadies and yes-men--and that may change. Also, the U.S. has extensive commercial connections to countries like France, Russia and China, which would jeopardized by poisoning Iran (and who knows? --much of the Middle East) with nuke weapons. And are we any different that K, K, T, T and U--in being the subjugated population of oppressive rulers--our Corporate Masters and their White House puppets--which has no say over what our government does, with the onset of corporate electronic voting systems, run on TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code? How is this different from dictatorship? And will it be long before OUR rivers and seas are dead from pesticides, with such rulers as these?
