China Calls for Peaceful Iran Resolution
09.09.2006, 12:02 PM

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Saturday that the international standoff
over Iran's disputed nuclear program must be resolved peacefully and he
cautioned against the imposition of sanctions.

Wen stressed his country doesn't want Iran to develop nuclear weapons and
would "make tireless efforts" for a negotiated solution.

"That said, diplomatic efforts will be a long process," he told reporters
on the sidelines of a summit with the European Union. "To mount pressure
or impose sanctions will not necessarily bring about a peaceful solution."

His comments came as EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana met with Iranian
nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani in Vienna, Austria, about Tehran's defiance
of international demands that it give up uranium enrichment.

1. Why we chasing Iran boggles my mind....Indeed NK is a threat
North Korea claims that they have eight nukes, and one of them is aimed at California coast...But of course, Iran is in the news.

4. And yet North Korea has not used their nukes.
Why is that? Isn't their leader supposedly a deranged frootloop? How come these dangerous out of control minor powers with nukes just never seem to get around to using them?

To date there is exactly one nation that has used nuclear weapons.

6. BBC: Iran 'misunderstandings' cleared

Iran 'misunderstandings' cleared

The EU's foreign policy chief has said that misunderstandings about Iran's
nuclear programme have been cleared up, in talks with its chief negotiator.

Javier Solana and Ali Larijani said progress had been made in a second day
of talks to find a compromise to avoid UN sanctions against Iran.

The two officials said they would meet again next week.

But Iran has ruled out accepting any preconditions for talks and dismissed
calls to suspend uranium enrichment.
