Man held in death of (NBC's) Stone Phillips' aunt

A 49-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance and death of Doris Phillips, the elderly aunt of Dateline NBC anchor Stone Phillips.

Ellis County sheriff's officials would not identify the man, who was charged with the burglary of Mrs. Phillip's home, but described him as a longtime friend of the victim.

Mrs. Phillips, 81, had been missing from her Ellis County home since July 26. Lt. Tims said the suspect, who has been in custody since Sunday, led investigators to Mrs. Phillips body about 10:45 p.m. Friday in an abandoned Ellis County farmhouse.

The lieutenant would not say how she was slain, but said that the suspect has not confessed to the killing. The arrest brought some relief to Mrs. Phillips' family Saturday.

He was funny on The Colbert Report, I believe he was on the very first episode. He seems to have a pretty good sense of humor.

Is he a musician as well? Recall him hangin with Tanya Tucker for awhile...(who my mom taught in Jr High in Las Vegas...she lived in a trailer going to school while supporting her family by working all night..we all felt bad for her)

Both of them were at Yale at the same time, and he was a football player who also excelled academically. I forget what she was majoring in originally, but after graduation, she came back and did pre-med and eventually became a doctor. The singing group we were in was a student-organized one that still exists.
