78. Well, blackberries the fruit are semi-liquid
so whether or not they are allowed on planes is iffy and is probably up to the discretion of the TSA supervisor. My suggestion is to leave your blackberry fruit at home if you don't want to see it sharing a big TSA trash can with all the bottled water, Coke, Pepsi, Snapple, non-critical liquid medications, lipstick, mascara, and Elmer's glue.

Let's hope enough do before Nov. 7th, and let's get John Conyers as Judiciary Chair.

That will bring a pretty swift halt to some of the fearmongering.

63. Darn right.
Today at the Rosslyn Metro, there's a cop walking around sporting a mean looking automatic weapon.

Does the H&K G36 come in a short model with a forward grip? Maybe I've just been playing too much Battlefield 2 this year.

Anyway, it was a little freaky to see someone just hanging around with one of those things. It didn't make me feel any safer, but it made me feel a lot more German.

This isn't even an exceptional event - diverting planes, even scrambling fighter jets for a Blackberry in a backpack, it's routine now!

I can't think of anything more fitting and emblematic to mark the last 5 years of our lives than this.

Remember; the fighters only responded and shot down the plane *HEADED

targets was necessary for the propaganda to be effective.

75. If this is true, it might answer your question
http://www.tvnewslies.org/html/9_11_facts.html

On the morning of September 11th, 2001, Dick Cheney was running several war games in the north eastern portion of the United States. These drills included many hijacking scenarios, where commercial jets were hijacked and flown into buildings. At the same time Cheney had arranged for a drill involving a bio attack on NY. This resulted in FEMA setting up a command post on pier 29 in New York on September 10th.

Some of these drill were scheduled for later in the year but Dick Cheney rescheduled them and made sure that they all took place on the same day. This was unprecedented.

The war games involved live fly exercises, and electronic drills where fake blips were placed on radar screens. Cheney was in charge of a communications system that superseded those of the FAA, NORAD and NEADS. Some of the drills possibly included remote control planes.

WASHINGTON (AFX) - A United Airlines flight en route from Atlanta, Georgia to San Francisco was diverted to Dallas, Texas because of \"suspicious activity\" CNN reported, citing the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

The move was taken as the US marked the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks that stunned the world and forever changed Americans\' sense of safety at home and abroad.

44. This happened in Ottawa a while back, too.
A guy dropped his iPod in an airplane toilet, but didn't notice it at the time. A few minutes later, he heard a flight attendant say she's found some sort of device lodged in the pipe. He realized what had happened, and explained about his iPod, but it was too late. She had already phoned security.

Not only did the passengers have to sit in a crowded bus for an hour at Ottawa airport, but the innocent man himself got grilled by a bunch of clueless customs officers. Even after it was revealed that he hadn't actually planted a bomb on the plane after all, he still got grilled about his "terrorist" activities, including one fool asking if he had any connection to "that liquid thing in England".

51. Missed connection?
Doesn't luggage often show up without passengers? Often when a connection is messed up, the luggage and passengers show up on different flights. Mr. Footinmouth got stuck traveling in August on the same day as the British terror scare. His flight to JFK was diverted to Hartford. He and co-workers rented a car and drove back, some with luggage, some without. Luggage arrived the next day, separated from the passenger. This stuff happens all the time.

54. Happened to us in a similar way
we had a four hour layover in Charlottsville, asked at the airline desk if there was another flight with room leaving sooner. They checked, and yes, but it was leaving in 10 minutes...

they said they would make arrangements for luggage to get on board, we ran for the plane and boarded.

had a relaxing flight into Philadelphia thinking we would be able to get home earlier than expected - yeah....right....

our luggage wasn't moved, it was still on the original flight - so instead of spending 4 hours in Charlottsville waiting for our flight, we spent 4 hours in Philadelphia waiting for our luggage

Thank you for the very badly needed laugh.

I heard about this this morning; it's now about 4 p.m. where I am. I assume all's well that ends well.

76. RF shielding the hold would be cheap and easy.
It would be just as easy to shield the overhead carry on compartments.

There is no excuse for not shielding the hold.

People are never going to be happy with the security convenience trade off. Every time they do something stupid like that they lose credibility that is needed to fight real security issues.
