Clinton, most Americans, skip ABC's 9/11 miniseries

Editing changes made by ABC to the first part of its miniseries "The Path to 9/11" were cosmetic and didn't change the meaning of scenes that had angered several former Clinton administration officials, a spokesman for the former president said Monday.

As for Clinton, he didn't bother watching the movie that angered so many people who once worked for him.

"He made the choice that most Americans made," said Jay Carson, Clinton Foundation spokesman. "Of a fictionalized drama version of September 11 or the Manning brothers playing football against one another, he chose the latter." The movie was flattened in the ratings by the debut of NBC's Sunday night football, matching Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts against his younger brother Eli of the New York Giants. The football game had an estimated 20.7 million viewers, while "The Path to 9/11" had 13 million, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The ABC movie did, however, beat CBS' third airing of its "9/11" documentary, which was seen by an estimated 10.6 million people, Nielsen said.

As I posted elsewhere on DU, the acting was atrocious, the camera work a bad imitation of Traffic, and the script culled directly from wingnut talking points.

In 20 minutes, the "I couldn't get clearance from upstairs" meme had worn itself anorexic.

It was truly a crapudrama.

did buy it as the truth, because they are not even aware of the behind the scenes protests this past week.
The news articles I've seen don't mention much beyond that it's just Clinton speaking out against this and
implying more that he's just whining because he was not being shown in a good enough light.

The actor who plays Richard Clarke (Stephen Root) was quoted in my newspaper's TV
listings booklet as saying "This educated me tremendously. . .The Clinton administration screwed
up. The Bush administration screwed up. . ." The reviewer then goes on to say "The docudrama is based
on "intrepid reporting" and is accurate.

At least his quote shows that he realizes Bush screwed up too, but then the rationalization is
always there that they were therefore both somehow equally guilty.

57 million were having sex, 10 million were attending worship services, 9 million were driving around in motor homes looking for someplace to go that they haven't visited yet. 30 million were doing some kind of arts and crafts or some workout, yoga or mental relaxation techniques. 3 million were meditating and 2 million were out walking the dog. .5 million were tagging the local walls and rail cars and .1 million were committing other crimes. All the rest were either asleep, driving on the 405, working or doing something else.

today is more or less just another day. The English newspaper had a cover story about the anniversary, but not the main story.

I don't know what they are showing on TV, as I don't have one to watch.

As an American expat, it seems odd for the anniversary to pass by without comment, but to be honest I'm kind of grateful for it.

I had intended to. Instead, I switched to the NFL game. But when an official blew a replay call at an exciting moment near the end (in a two-point game), resulting in a desperation pass that turned into an interception on the next play, I said "OK, the officials have ruined this one" and switched to NPR.

i'm mixed about whether they treated it with fairness or not. of course i went into it expecting a smear job ala swift boats, but i didn't get that. allbright was portrayed as some wild boar. but i did come away with it feeling that it demonstrated how much effort was put into tracking down osama, and i thought, gee, had they kept that momentum, there woudn't have ever been a 9/11. so what the hell happened?
