American Airlines criticizes ABC miniseries on 9/11 attacks

By TREBOR BANSTETTER
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

FORT WORTH — Executives with American Airlines say they are “outraged” at the airline’s depiction in the ABC miniseries The Path to 9-11.

Airline spokesman Roger Frizzell said Monday that the miniseries, which concludes tonight, falsely portrays an American gate agent at Boston’s Logan Airport allowing a terrorist onto a flight despite a warning that he may have been a threat.

“It’s important for the public to know that the ABC dramatization is inaccurate and irresponsible in its portrayal of the airport check-in events that occurred on the morning of Sept. 11,” he said.

Two flights operated by Fort Worth-based American were hijacked in the attacks. Flight 11, which departed from Logan, crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York, and Flight 77, which flew from Washington Dulles Airport, crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

Officials with ABC were not immediately available for comment.

Sherlock Holmes series with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce over the weekend.

Hmmm..... I wonder... how would "The Hound of the Baskervilles" have gone if Karl Rove had written it....

12. I happen to like TV.
I really hate it when people act all superior because they don't watch TV.You don't watch tv fine good for you,but that doesn't make you a better person.Sorry but there's a guy at work that does that all the time.He still couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the c and the t.So I'm kinda touchy about it.

23. I'm with you
There is talk about an all out boycott against Disney, but realistically, it won't work. I'm still going to watch ESPN because I happen to like sports and my Iowa Hawkeyes play several games on that network. So the high and mighty are going to tell me that I can't watch football on TV? Fat chance. I am not a season ticket holder, and besides that, I would also like to see road games. Quit watching TV? Nope, gotta see sports.

2. I've been waiting for this
American is sending a statement to any customers who ask about the miniseries.

“We are outraged by how American is portrayed in ABC’s program,” it reads. “It is not factual, and very unfortunate.”

A lawsuit would be nice.

5. A lawsuit is needed.
It is the only thing Disney will understand. Also, they cannot hope to win,m since they were told about the AA error prior to air time and went ahead with it anyway. This is WILLFUL defamation.

6. I wouldn't be surprised if they sue
I wouldn't be surprised if AA sues. They have a massive legal team and they sue pretty much everyone who looks at them the wrong way.

20. pickens are pretty slim
ABCessDisney tv is just that.

CBS/Viacom necklaced Rather, rather than annoy the rightwing shrill brigade with the truth about w's (lack of) national guard service.

NBC's Jack Welch is 50% responsible for the lie of bush winning Florida, by ordering his news team to call bush the winner.

FAUX had Bush's cousin do the other 50%, calling the same for their network.

There are no other major news players. (Fox isn't even major...they're just LOUD.)

And still no deep pocket Democrats will step up to start purchasing some media power.

me and you can't do it. money can, but apparently dem money won't.

At least the information is THERE. You do have to be somewhat discriminating and look for multiple sources. IOW, you have to be your own journalist.

16. I don't know the status of the watch list
but:

Box cutters were OK at time
Details in the grainy video are difficult to distinguish. But an earlier, preliminary report by the commission describing activities at Dulles is consistent with the men’s procession through airport security as shown on the video.

No knives or other sharp objects are visible on the surveillance video. Investigators have said the hijackers at Dulles were believed to be carrying utility knives either personally or in their luggage, which at the time could legally be carried aboard planes if the blades were less than 4 inches long and were not considered “menacing.”
