Phelps targets Idaho with antigay monument

One of the first political problems facing the incoming mayor of Boise, Ida., Dave Bieter, will be an attempt by an extremist antigay church to erect a hate monument next to the city's own monument to the Ten Commandments. Civil libertarians say the city may have no choice but to accommodate both monuments--and maybe more.

1. Afraid this would come. Posted something about Phelps in the thread

regarding Judge Moore and his 10 commandments monument. Phelps will attempt to put this hate statue anywhere he can find a 10 commandment or other "religious" monument on public land.

They call it "antigay", they should call it what it is "hate-mongering".

People like Phelps give Christians a bad name.

I have this abiding fear that he will be proved wrong.
That would be sad, as he needs a staggering dose of that poetic justice that only divine retribution can dispense, not the quick grace of a .303 headshot.

4. I was born and raised in Idaho

You know the story of the Ugly Duckling? Then you know the story of my life.

I am so glad to be gone from that state. I lived in Texas for a long time too and I'm sorry to say that Idaho makes Texas look like the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco.

About a decade ago, someone in Boise spray-painted several of the municipal and state buildings with the following slogan: "NO NIGERS". I thought that maybe, just maybe, it was a statement by someone that they didn't want to happen in the United States what had happened in Niger (whatever that was). But knowing Idaho, I'm afraid I know exactly what they meant.

It's just a damn shame that the whackos of the world have to pick the most beautiful places to live in.
