American gets no response from ABC on 9/11 movie

An American Airlines official said the airline is "looking at a number of possible options to set the record straight," after what it describes as an inaccurate and irresponsible depiction of the airline in an ABC made-for-television movie.

"The Path to 9/11," which aired on ABC on Sunday and Monday featured a scene that reportedly shows American personnel waving lead hijacker Mohammed Atta through security check-in at Boston's Logan Airport despite a warning that pops up on their computer screen.

"It simply was not accurate," said Roger Frizzell, vice president, corporate communications and advertising, for American.

American said the show was an "inaccurate and irresponsible in its portrayal of the airport check-in events that occurred on the morning of September 11, 2001."

...

"We have made numerous attempts to contact ABC. At this point we have not received any word back," Frizzell said Wednesday.

2. Since PT9-11 claims to be factually based on the 9-11 Commission
...Report, was that supposed incident of an American Airline staff person waving lead hijacker Mohammed Atta through security check-in at Boston's Logan Airport despite a warning that pops up on their computer screen documented or described or alluded to in any way in the Commission Report? I'm just curious as to where the writers of the docudrama obtained that specific information.

11. Well, given they have not even mentioned anything about that
...following the release of the 9-11 Commission Report two years ago, I have to think nothing like that happened, but then again, who has read every page, paragraph and word of the report?

15. What happened was that the passanger was boarded in Maine
but a different airline. The incident did happen, though they even exaggerate what could have been done, but it wasn't American Airlines and it wasn't Logan airport.

20. The Poor Ticket Agent in Maine is haunted by it
Some days, anger kicks in. Anger he knows he's shoved inside, only to have it dig at him until, without warning, he starts sobbing so deeply he cannot breathe. At those times, he calls the friends he grew up with and they say, "What's wrong with you? What the f--- is wrong? It's not your fault!" He talks now about the anger. About all he learned in the years after. About a briefing to the president on August 6, 2001. "It was all there," Tuohey says. "Osama bin Laden. Hijackings. Buildings in New York City. These weren't dots they had to connect. These were potholes. If just those words -- hijackings, terrorists -- had come down to us, we'd have gone to level 3 security. Now here I am. I have two young Arabic men in front of me. One-way tickets, checking in just minutes before departure. At level 3, I would have been required to notify security. Their bags would have been opened. What we saw would have set off suspicions: a pilot's uniform, a video on flying jets. Airline pilots do not buy $2,400 first-class tickets. Airline pilots are the cheapest people on earth. Right there, we would have known something was wrong. This was preventable."

And according to Tuohey the American Airlines Agent that issued Atta and the other hijacker their boarding passes at Logan committed suicide. If I was her husband, I'd sue ABC.

25. And there was nothing that popped up on the computer screen,
as I understand it. That was why the employee was so upset. If they HAD been in a higher state of alert, then he WOULD have stopped him for more of a search. But they weren't in a state of alert, so he let him go through, despite his suspicions.

it's not like the "writers" were very diligent in getting any of the facts right.

Hamilton made a point that the airlines never were alerted.

6. .
That seems likely but that would just suck. This movie was irresponsible and whoever gets the chance should sue them like hell.
I'm not a lawyer, but after concerns were raised again and again, I can't imagine a better possibility to sue.

22. sigh...
"Christians are liars and it's ok."

yes they are, and no it's not. no one, regardless of their beliefs, hasn't lied in their life at some point or another, even if its white lies. now, if you want to talk about wolves (selfish people, or even worse, evil) in sheep's clothing (pretending to be God fearing humble Christians), then I'll agree with you.

I don't rather like blanket generalizations about people of faith. it's like saying all Jews are tight asses, or all Muslims are bomb toting nuts, and finally, that all Christians are Bush loving liars - enough already.

23. I think that they should have a rep on TDS and The Colbert Report.
And Keith's show. And Bill Maher's show. And I think they should call Universal Studios and tell them that they will put free Univ. Studio advertising in the pockets of all of their planes. And they should also enclose a brochure that states, "Disney World and Disney Land employ known pedophiles." (Not true, but who cares...Disney is not interested in truth, so this shouldn't matter to them.)

Everyone seems plenty pissed about this totally asinine show, but no one seems to want to do anything about it.

24. If American Airlines keep their adverts on ABC
they would be caving in. Law Suits take years but pulling ads and never again funding ABC would be a lot more effective.
