Christian Killed in Iraq in Response to Pope's Speech: Islamic Website

(AINA) -- According to the website Islam Memo, one Christian was killed in Baghdad after the Pope's speech two days ago. The speech created a wave of anger throughout the Islamic world, including Iraq. A poster has been placed in many Baghdad mosques for the previously unknown group, "Kataab Ashbal Al Islam Al Salafi," (Islamic Salafist Boy Scout Battalions). This group threatens to kill all Christians in Iraq if the Pope does not apologize in three days in front of the whole world to Mohammed.

1. they are doing more harm to the image of their religion than anything
the Pope who is not even Muslim would say.

2. Geeze, now our religious crackpots will actually have something
to point too when making their claims that Christians are being persecuted.

3. Yep, now that the blood is spilled this can be turned into a true
crusade. May we live in interesting times the old adage goes.

6. Hate to break the news to you
Christians all over the world are being persecuted in countries where Islam is the predominate faith from open discrimination to outright murder.

It's a relatively well known fact.

Today, as we speak, Sudanese Christians are being raped, murdered and sold into slavery by the thousands by the Islamic extremists

7. No kidding?
I wasn't talking about them, but the ones in the U.S. You know, the ones David Linbaugh wrote about.

14. They've had plenty of examples.
From Indonesia. Nigeria. Pakistan. Sudan. Egypt. And a few other places where the idea of saying "Christ is Lord" or "Muhammed is not the prophet of God" in public is worth a death sentence. Sometimes an official one. Sometimes vigilante justice by those defending their Allah, and showing exactly what kind of Muhammed they follow.

It's as bad there as in China.

8. Plenty of Catholics, plenty of
Christians in the 150,000 plus US troops over there. Plenty in the UK and Italian forces. Plenty in the Swiss Guards, who take a pledge to die before letting harm come to the Pope. Plenty militant Catholics, all over the world. Just War may have arrived. Maybe it's time after all. May Christ guide us.

13. Hold on there. Maybe it's time for you, but me and mine would like to
stay out of your little turf war, mmmkay?

John Lennon had it right. Imagine no religion. Or at the least religions that don't embrace violence as a tool to punish non-believers or "different-believers". Now THAT would be heaven.

10. "....boy scout battalions"?
well i`m not putting to much credibility in this story... the religious/blood feuds of the tribes in the middle east is getting just a little old.

11. Seems to me like
that they are laboring mightily to prove that the Pope had it right.

Islam seems to be its own worst enemy, or at least some Muslims are.

12. But it is all right to destroy Bibles coming into Saudi Arabia
I have no patience with this kind of stuff - I hope the Pope doesn't cave in and apologize.

15. Long history of communal violence.
Treat Christians as hostages and as members of the opposing tribe caught in the enemy's territory.

Nothing new. Except that it's making print. Then again, that's not entirely new; it was fairly frequent in the 1800s and early 1900s. What's new is the scope of the killing.

So few people. Trivial compared to the historical record, actually.

The current batch of "devout Muslims" are much more tolerant than their great-grandfathers were.
