Death of a President Wins Fipresci Prize
Toronto – For the 15th consecutive year, the Toronto International Film Festival welcomed an international FIPRESCI jury. FIPRESCI is the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique (the International Federation of Film Critics).

The Prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI Prize) goes to DEATH OF A PRESIDENT from the United Kingdom directed by Gabriel Range, “for the audacity with which it distorts reality, to reveal a larger truth.”
DEATH OF A PRESIDENT is a fictional drama with a unique premise, told in the style of a retrospective documentary, which offers a critique of the contemporary US political landscape.

The FIPRESCI Jury at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival:

Klaus Eder, FIPRESCI - Germany - Jury President
Géza Csákvári, Nepszabadsag - Hungary
Esin Kücüktepepinar, Sabah - Turkey
Oscar Peyrou, Agencia EFE
Norman Wilner, Metro Toronto - Canada

1. One reason I'm against the notion in the movie
about Bush being assasinated is that Bush should be put in jail for life. Let him and his entire familiy suffer the humiliation for generations. There's more damage that can be done that way to Bush and his sychophants. I am not so concerned about the so-called "backlash" that the freepers would wish would happen because it just won't happen after he sent 2700+ troops to die for nothing.

2. Bush belongs in one of those secret prisons.
Hey, he says they're no big deal, so he shouldn't worry about how he'll be treated there. What's a little water? He can wash his face frequently.

6. You're welcome Lynn. Some of those movies can be darned
realistic sometimes and it can get a little confusing for a lot of folks..

But always remember the idea that anyone would wish some harm to befall dearest W is clearly far fetched... and there's your real clue, right there!

10. Agreed...the last thing we need is
* becoming a martyr. Alive, he serves as an example, however phenomenally bad.

5. Has anyone ever said what the filmmaker concludes? I'm curious
as to what he thinks would happen in that scenario

11. A better use of a film about * would be the impeachment
A better use of a film about the Bush admin would be about the impeachment and subsequent relegation to the Hague for war crimes! I would pay good money to see that happen. Can you imagine it a movie which shows in detail what would happen while impeaching the whole corrupt gang. Links to Enron, WMD lies, a public international trial like during WWII for the Nazis.

12. I envision the opening scene as an OJ-style chase sequence
A desperate, sweaty Bush commandeers a vehicle. The camera shows the driver's view of Bush brandishing Saddam's gun, and alternately weeping and yelling with rage. The story of the collapse of his regime is told in flashbacks.
